I'm going on Friday and have done little to no research. Any recommendations? Especially on nightlife.
Got taken around by a friend, but things during the daytime:
The metro is more compact that the tube in London, so you can walk most places.
If you like architecture, Sol station is between Plaza Major and the banking districts, and also is good for shopping.
Avoid the botanical gardens-bit rubbish.
Bernabeu tour is OK.
There's a large park to the north of the banking district which is very nice.
There's a medieval food market too, which Is somewhere just of Gran Via I think. Go there.
Is me standing between the two UEFA cups in the (frankly rediculous) trophy room on the Bernabeu tour. My highlight was sitting in the dugout though. The most comfortable seats I've encountered anywhere.
i spent all 3 nights i was in madrid there. oh and the mexican restaurant nearby.
*plese dont actually listen to me.
when I went to Frankfurt to visit my brother who now lives there we went to the same Irish pub 2 nights in a row. Cheers, bro.
This place has really cheap drinks:
And this place is pretty cool too:
There are a number of other decent bars around the same square, including a legendary vermouth bar, but that's more of a late afternoon kinda place:
...please report back before then, ta.
I think I was in Madrid for 3 nights, and I spent all 3 of them wandering down Calle Cava Baja for drinks and tapas. Amazing place, that, actually. There's a little bar with a projector and I watched Breakfast At Tiffany's, I think. Anyway, wander down there before you properly go out.
Also, I went to the Reina Sofía and Thyssen-Bornemisza museums, might have done the Museo del Prado too but I can't remember. They were alright I guess... Went to some Turkish baths (http://www.hammamayala.com) which were pretty good.
