I suspect that I am the only person other than Woody Allen who actually likes this.
Quite weak towards the end, though, and it's just a retreading of the (absolutely amazing) Crimes & Misdemeanors (which is probably my favourite of his films).
i remember it being more of a retreading of Crime and Punishment in the whole killing the landlady thing.
^THIS MIGHT BE A SPOILER. I CAN'T REMEMBER.
Have you seen Crimes & Misdemeanors though? It's got two plots going side-by-side, one of which is structurally almost identical to the main plot of Match Point. They're thematically very similar too. It could be that Woody wanted to do another loose adaptation of Crime & Punishment, or that he was exploring further what he had got into with his earlier film.
tbh, I'm far more familiar with that than I am with Match Point which I saw i think just after it came out i think.
Reading the plot summary on wikipedia I can see the similiarities now, and I think you're probably right, I guess there's those two sources going on.
Seem to remember hating it for the first 45 minutes or so, cos everyone was really posh and the acting was a bit crap
in a carcrash sort of way.
And I've seen Inspector Gadget.
I saw the title of this thread and momentarily confused "Match Point" with "Wimbledon". When I realised my mistake, my enthusiasm for the topic ended.
