This massive earthquake in New Zealand today and the floods and fires in Australia have made me wonder where in the world would be the most sensible place to live in terms of overall safety, should we have the choice.
Lets not turn this into a debate on the exactitudes of global warming, but extreme weather and natural disasters appear to be happening more often, and sea levels are rising meaning low lying land is seriously under threat from flooding, and even being swallowed by the sea completely in the medium term - many of those idyllic desert islands will probably be gone in a few years.
Countries on the up like China and India are still very underdeveloped in terms of social and political issues, and developed countries like the UK and USA and Western Europe are only going to see more crime and inequality as India and China surge and oil continues to run out and prices spiral. Africa, South and Central America, the Middle East and much of Asia are still also very much underdeveloped socially, politically and economically.
So basically, where do you reckon the best place for a settled life for the average person would be to live now, in 5 years, in 10 years, in 20 years, in 50 years etc. ?
I'm really tiring of this country, but I can't see it being much better in the long term anywhere else than in a nice little house, somewhere up a hill in Brighton.
Is there a magic country out there which is well developed socially, politically and economically which is safe from natural disasters and extreme weather where it would be awesome to live?
