A question for aspiring writers.
When you walk into a bookshop or library and see the enormous amount of stuff on display, do you find it inspiring, or utterly dispiriting?
Sometimes I flick through the racks of Dan Brown rip-offs or Essex gangster sagas and think: 'This stuff is all shit. I could knock this out, or write something even better', and I come out all enthused.
But sometimes I just look at it all and feel nothing but despair at how to compete with the sheer volume of stuff - how do you have an original idea among all that weight of paper?
