After a helluva lot of man hours of investigation and a lot of bashing things around, last night I sat down with Tom__ and he managed to fix the thing that were causing all the 502 error messages for many of you and the site to crash intermittently this past week.
I'll continue to monitor it today and throughout the weekend but hopefully what Tom did late last night has remedied the stupid-stupid issue. We have been super cautious and you'll notice on /community we've turned off the latest threads, as, oddly, this is quite an intensive thing for the database to produce. We're also going to sit down next week and sort out the speech-marks related post-eating issue and also the vanishing new posts (vs appear!) nonsense which has gone on for far too long but we think we finally know what's causing this.
Thanks again for your patience, I know how incredibly frustrating this all is and rest assured, over the coming couple of months I have a crack team of specialists who will be re-building things from the bottom up, stripping various things away, simplifying things, streamlining and implementing solutions which will make everything run much more efficiently (finally!). The boards are the number one priority in this process.
Again, I'm really sorry about all these intermittent little quirks. The reason for it all is partly because the site is 10 years old (which makes it a bit like a vintage car in internet years) but mostly it's because we haven't had the funds to spend on rebuilding the foundations of the site, so a lot of these legacy issues have bitten the site on its ass lately.
