OK I have somehow picked up a possibly nasty virus that according to my virus protection is spreading like wildfire through my computer with loads of files being "quarantined". Firstly what does that mean, that I can't access the files it affects?
It is detecting the files affected and quarantining them as it occurs, but I have run a full scan of the computer it isn't detecting anything, let alone deleting anything and the virus is showing no signs of slowing down. It is all rather worrying.
The virus is W32/NGVCK, I seem to have picked it up by clicking on a malicious link. Tough break. What is this virus and what will it do? The McAfee site is absolute gobbledigook.
I have McAfee virus software but haven't got round to paying to update it since 2009 which I admit is a bit silly but the computer is pretty old, I am very careful with stuff like this and don't use this computer for much at all apart from general internet use.
However I do have quite a few albums, photos and word files on here I really don't want to lose.
So basically what should / can I do about this? Help!
