anyone live there / studied there?
As all kentish seaside towns are.
...Broadstairs is lovely.
...altho I realise I am in a massive minority. It's cheap and has loads of places to drink, and I am a man of simple pleasures.
although they are doing a lot to try and regenerate it.
There is a hardcore of the population who belong to several generations of the unemployed and have never travelled much further than Margate.
I wouldn't live there myself.
Lots of other nice places in Kent though.
it was rough as fook when i grew up there (13 years ago). its still a bit edgy, but no more so than perhaps anywhere else that isnt metropolitan.
if youre looking for arts and music theres little. but theyre really trying to become a uni-town so theyre offering cheap studio space/ building small gig venues/the old cobbled high st is the artists quarter (rather than arcades and kebab shops!) etc to try and encourage people down. it seems to be working but its early days. they opened a cool venue called the quarterhouse (about 500 cpacity, close to the stage, art shows, stand ups etc) but its proved beyond the people of folkestone sadly.
theyre making efforts tho, and the seaside is lovely. if pebbley! high speed link in now so 50 mins to kings cross. havin said that im still in london!
