How DARE no one make a thread to remind us :(
Lauren Laverne looks fit tonight. Missed half of it though.
the comedy is the weakest so far. Why do they keep dressing Jimmy Carr up?
His sketches are poorly written and poorly delivered.
On the plus side, it makes the other stuff seem good by comparison.
Apparently I'm the only one (on these boards at least) that's found him refreshingly funny compared to his work outside of this show.
I also thought the Tunisia sketch in the opening episode was really funny.
Though I haven't seen last night's episode yet.
most overrated porcelain elf ever.
If u need a wank just look up at the artex, it has more curves
As you would expect - they get better with practice. Also noticeable that they are giving Labour a bit of a kicking this week rather than just doing the usual stuff.
Slightly miffed that Mitchell didn't know the first thing about the Post Office sell off to make the key argument - The UK postal market is completely open and has been for more than half a decade, private operators now do all the profit making areas and the only things left to sell are services that lose money and will always lose money unless a stamp costs £50.
The space woman was alright though. I'd probably have sex with her if the opportunity arose, yeah.
The Forestry Commission bloke was great. He should be on every week. Having somebody from the Green Party on was a waste of everyone's time.
that a knowing, serious politics show would put itself on at the same time as QT, which is by far the more interesting and enlightening programme, as if they're competing
thankfully 10 o'clock live is neither knowing or serious, just a load of obvious jokes the student audience can woop at
people who watch it over QT are cretins, and are getting the politics they deserve
it's just an annoying varient of BASEketball
It's not an either/or choice.
A continuation of the improvement of last week?
Steady improvements, and best one yet. They don't seem too shy about shuffling stuff about and cutting back on the tat. Hopefully they'll carryon with that. Lauren's (thankfully) almost worthwhile now - the library skit was kinda lightweight, but that's no bad thing in itself. It was well done and a million times better than the shit world news thing she had to serve up in Ep1. Brooker keeps on keeping on, so no need for him to make any great changes (OTP has identified him as some sort of alleged messiah to teh loonie lefterz. Nah, he's just consistently, pleasingly wry, ta.). Not the strongest showing from Mitchell, but he should be fine, all told. Carr's schtick is what it is. He's a decent scripted standup, but his detachedness kinda grates on this - there's never even the slightest hint of real bille, which defeats the object somewhat.
Agree that going head to head with QT is totally pointless and smacks of unearned cockiness. QT has it's failings (needs a new host for starters, imho), but it's a legit key piece of pLOLitics programming. If C4 wanted to be properly cocky, they would put it up against some of BBC's 'reality' guff.
i just find it a bit annoying that the choice of thursday means a somewhat needless head-to-head. are they really gonna get better ratings by doing it on thursday compared to any other day? i guess it's cos you've got 4 days of weekday news to work with, whereas any earlier in the week will reduce that or rely on 'old news' from last week. and they must've decided it's not a friday night kinda thing. oh well.
is always a bit much - tends to descend into a shouting match and no one really gets their point across. Either give that section more time, or cut it down to two people.
Dont allow Carr any standup time, no sketches, more Brooker and give Laverne a slower moving teleprompter. Sorted
is that it is Mitchell who does the shouting. The guests are generally pretty well behaved.
Aye not bad in parts and shit in others. As moribund said above mitchells 3 way interview was pretty crap and he needs to step in and know when to get folk to shut up as it was pretty much a shouting match.
Carr's routine to kick off was a bit shit, rehashes of jokes from old stories.
Brooker is good but for whatever reason doesn't seem to get as much time as Carr and mitchell.
I like laverne, i think she's hot!
and will be the main draw to pull in C4/E4 viewers who would normally not give a stuff about political humour.
Laverne is there for a bit of indie cred and Brooker is there to give the show some actual/potential bite.
The first show was so rushed and clunky that they're shuffling the features around a bit from week to week now to give everything more time. He'll probably have 2 features again next week instead of one.
(aside from Brooker's hair obvs)
rather than the awkward sketch thing it's got going on at the moment.
also, it's not even as funny as QT
Taking apart the news like a car that needs a tune up, with truth wrenches and political satirist mechanics like some crazy world where cars are issues and we drive them around like MANIACS...
I'm glad it's on.
I liked the bit about Mitchell not saying the name of that guy (I thought that was pretty worthwhile). I liked Laverne's bit about libraries. I liked the last few seconds where Brooker did his 'wave of suicide bombers' joke and then Jimmy Carr got the best joke of the show in just before the credits rolled (can't remember what it was though).
