My first phone was passed down to me from my older brother, it was a Motorola flip thingy like this one:

I remember thinking I was indisputably the coolest person in school with this, certainly the envy of my Alcatel / Phillips Savvy owning friends. It even bolstered my confidence to the extent that my very first text message was to this cute girl in my history class – I figured I’d done it wrong because she never replied :-(

Then I got a Sony J5

Damn cool one this. Polyphonic ringtones, ace monkey-in-a-tree type game. This was back in the day when you wrote ‘text back’ or ‘tb’ at the end of texts – think my Mum still bankrolled my fortnightly credit here so I had quite a high investment in each text

a lot of kids in school at this time started owning phones that could hold four or five MP3’s so I felt a bit behind with this. Don’t have any particular memories attached, except it came with a ridiculously bulky camera attachment and it met its fate when my girlfriend threw it in a lake

From then I ventured into three generations of Samsung slide phones before moving onto my current Blackberry. Yeah!
