Some scary stats http://www.fastcodesign.com/1663126/infographic-of-the-day-so-what-if-you-dont-sleep-enough?partner=co_newsletter
I probably get 6-7 hours :-/
not nearly enough!
way to much, i can sleep for AGES if i want which is great but if i get any less than about 7/8 i feel like shit, which is pretty rubbish.
Although I'm still always perma-knackered. And I've been the same weight for the last 10 years, so that thing about losing over 14lb a year is rubbish. Quite obviously.
but if I don't set an alarm, I'll happily sleep for that long. Or longer. I'm just really bad at waking up after a reasonable amount of sleep and, if I don't get up quick enough, dozing again for hours.
.'If you sleep over nine hours a day, you're more likely to be fat, diabetic, depressed, and have heart disease. So get eight hours, but no more.'.
So yeah don't expect to lose weight by sleeping too much.
I don't *think* I'm diabetic, although I've been wondering about it recently.
I'm pretty depressive, but that's more cos I'm a twunt.
I don't think I have any heart disease. BUT HOW WOULD I KNOW?
I am generally about 6-7 hours a night as well.
Unless I'm out and about at the boozer etc, in which case it's a paltry seven.
i thought you were almost always having 'some drinks'? does this not affect your average?
But even if I am at the local and then wander home, I'm still in bad for 11.30 and up at 7.30. Eight hours, no messing around.
That said, my mission over the next six months is 'to go out more'. I'M ALL OVER THIS #somedrinks
but the past few months due to slight insomnia, 4-5?
That's normally fine.
So it averages out at the healthy optimum. That's how these things work, right?
it's been bliss recently as the little'un has just got the hang of sleeping til around the same time as my alarm goes off for work. (and also til 7ish on the weekend, which is hardly a lie-in but is better than her previous average of around 6am).
As I get older the lack of sleep doesn't bother me as much.
Something about Thatcher only sleeping two hours a night...
grumpy from lack of sleep
what time do you normally go to bed if you've got work the next day?
There's no need for anyone to be awake past 11pm on a weeknight unless you're in a pub. That's what I've decided.
I'm addicted and stay up until 1am most nights watching it.
I can't think of anything that I'd stay up to watch past that point.
but I find that spending most of the week at a shitty job I hate, I push staying up in the evening as much as I can as i hate the thought of Monday to Friday consisting of work.dinner.sleep.work.dinner.sleep........etc etc....
Not that I have a job atm, but in my last one I (supposedly) started at 8 but it was rare to be asleep before about 2am. This makes a lie out of what I said my average was upthread, but hey.
Perhaps unrelatedly, in the 18 months I was there, I think I made it in for 8 once. That was my first day. After not-too-long, I was getting a 'shit the bed?!' -exclamation of surprise if I was there before 8:45. I hated that job.
asleep by 12 ish - get up at about 8
fluctuates quite a bit tho
i had an AMAZING nights sleep yesterday
i love agood night's sleep
Asleep by 11:30 (need a good long read to set me off)
If I have early morning yoga it's more around 10pm.
if i was left to myself i probably wouldnt go until about 1am.
novak djokovic's first serve percentage (prior to sunday's australian open final) was 69%. I thought of you.
rarely earlier and frequently later.
than I am to Ideal usually anywhere between 4-6 hours during the week 6-9 during the weekend
then 12 fri and sat
extremely questionable. There seems to be a lot of debate on what constitutes the 'right' amount of sleep so to say that, having 'not enough sleep' leads to a 200% rise in cancer risk seems ridiculous. I've read somewhere that 8+ hours is actually bad for you and 6-7 is the right amount. I wouldn't panic about this too much.
Incidentally I get about 6/7 hours a night.
It looks like it's an ad for a 'sleep coach'
Do i win a prize?
I was reading an article the other day that said that the idea that people need eight hours is pretty much rubbish. Everyone has different requirements. Some need 10, others need 6. There’s no hard and fast rule.
Now if I get less than 8, the entire day is a waste cos I'm just so knackered.
around 7 to 8hrs.
5 hrs in a row feels amazing.
I will always go to bed early if I have a 9am start to ensure 8 hours of sleep. If I have nothing on I will set my alarm for 9 hours into the future and maybe snooze for 30 minutes.
going to bed right now, in fact
my life is sweet.
I try and get 7-8 hours.
Last night: 5
Night before: 3
due to the stupidly erratic working hours in my job. There's absolutely no pattern to it from one week to the next (typical example, today I worked 7.30am - 4pm; tomorrow I'm in 3pm-11pm, Wednesday 9.30am-6pm, off Thursday...), so my body clock is all over the place- I end up doing ridiculous things like sleeping 2 hours one night and 14 the next. It really can't be healthy in the long-term, can it?
or 9 at the weekends.
I turn in around 10:30-11pm, but about once a year I may turn in at about 8pm, generally if I'm in a crappy mood and want to world to leave me alone. That makes me feel great the next day too.
Some weeks i'll go three days without any sleep, or very little so I'm sure that screws up my averages. Also every night I wake up for at least an hour. I can sleep in for a long time though.
I feel no better or worse regardless of hours slept but I despise getting out of bed more than anything.
I'm trying to go with my natural sleep patterns at the minute, I notice I wake up around 6ish and then if I go back to sleep it's very hard to wake up unless it gets to 10 so that fits in with the 4 hour dream pattern thingy. I should get up at 6.
I've been so-tired-I-appear-drunk a few times.
up just before 6am due to current commute taking ~2hrs
annoyingly, since i started not getting home until just before 7pm, i've started staying up later even though i have to get up earlier. 3/3.5hrs after work doesn't feel like enough of a valid 'evening'.
generally sleep more on weekends, usually midnight - 8am.
and 8-9 hrs at the weekends. Impending fatherhood could make this interesting though...
Sleeping is one of my favourite hobbies. I've already had a nap this afternoon.
i love sleep.
usually i probably sleep for about 10 hours a night, 10:30pm - 8:30am. i start to panic if i get less than 8.
but it's really bad for me and makes me depressed so i try not to nap so much anymore.
waking up and feeling sick and headachey for an hour after it doesn't seem too appealing though.
thats all about minimizing suffering instead of maximizing pleasure which comes to the conclusion that humanity should be destroyed as quickly as possible
SO MUCH FOR INSOMNIA
if I have less than 7 I'm usually pretty tired/zombiefied all day. Ideally I'd like to do what I do naturally at weekends, which is to sleep from about 12-12.30 to 9am. Mmm, sleep.
the wild life of a student
i've failed again
friday - 3am to 2pm
saturday - 6am to 10am
sunday - 6am to 1pm
tongiht I'm gonna try and be in bed by 1am. fuCKED UP.
Always thought commuting was slowly killing me. Probably get 10 at weekends hope that makes up for it but is probably even worse
~8-15 on a weekend
4 is ok(-ish). 8 is fine. 6 seems to fuck me up.
I've never liked going to sleep. I used to listen to Mark & Lard and then whatever was on after that until I dropped off. Quite lame when it means I'm always in a mad dash in the mornin'.
[Something about spinning out the evenings and delaying the onset of work the next day.]
but as I'm a fairly light sleeper it's probably more like five. My average for Sunday nights must be even worse since I'm usually gripped by the pre-work horrors.
Mostly due to bad habit, but also as I seem to wake at night times. Sometimes I try to sleep earlier but very seldom can I force myself to sleep so get bored and waste time on the pc. I'll occasionally be tired at work but once I get home all sense of tiredness has gone. Should really make more of an effort to sleep I suppose.
On weekends I try and get about 8 hours sleep usually, and can as I don't have to get up early.
Fucking great sean, thanks man.
Not sure I care if an advert for a 'sleep coach' says that I don't sleep the right amount though.
So you'd lose over 10 stone in a decade just by sleeping an hour more each day?
Sounds like a terribly drawn out, but equally dangerous alternative to anorexia to me.
I think we should all keep our exact same sleeping pattern, just to be safe. That's how it works, right?
so regularly 10. Can go down to 5 or so though, if I just plain forget to go to bed ...
it takes me longer than 2 hours to get to sleep at night usually.
If the number drops a little below that then I will fall asleep on the bus home from work.
So anything between 5 & fuck all.
i love sleeping but suffer with insomnia a lot. plus i get up at 6.30 on weekdays (which i hate)
i'm a big fan of naps on the weekend.
