FERNANDO TORRES HAS HANDED IN A TRANSFER REQUEST. Which Liverpool have rejected. Still though - lol.
strongest XIs please apart from it would be nice to see robbie blake
I can't see him being anything other than 3rd choice now though, even though Wenger isn't confirming this, and is in fact saying things to the contrary (though I hope its not true).
I think it would be a big mistake after the impressive showings from Fabianski and Szczesny this season to put him back in the side, or even on the bench if all three are fit. I can't see him playing any better than either of them, but I can see him potentially playing worse, and unsettling the defence, which has looked a lot better in recent games.
He's not gonna want to sit about being 3rd choice for 5 months though, so what to do with him? If we ship him out now it's going to be a quick sale on the cheap, or a loan, and would leave us with just two young goalkeepers in our first team squad for the rest of the season.
A dilemma for sure. Opinions?
No way would anyone, at the level that he wants to play, want him on loan.
I have a feeling Almunia will come back into the squad even though its probably the wrong choice. Wenger can be very stubborn at times. Hmm
The keeper situation is still ridiculous, I just don't understand why he hasn't bought a good keeper yet. Yes things have looked a little better in recent weeks but it still just isn't good enough for a team wanting to win the league. Makes me sad, it does. :(
I'm not sure a new keeper is so necessary right now
Fair enough then. You could hardly say the keepers we have are of a high enough standard for a club Arsenal's size though could you?
We won't know unless they get an extended run in the first team and they will probably make the occasional mistake. They are both inexperienced but so is Hart at Man City.
He's a great shot stopper... its his decision making which scares me. You're probably right that experience in the first team would help that though.
if this season is anything to go by.
Nine times out of ten, I think it's daft to reject a transfer request.
You'll have to PM me the lottery numbers with premonitions like that! For what its worth, 40million could prove good for both sides.
There's a small chance you're being far too clever for me here. I'm going to back away slowly.
has king kenny done wonders to improve his attitude and form in just 2 weeks?
Or did he know chelsea were sniffing around?
Football matters. Everton away. Don't see us progressing today, because this season had destroyed my sense of optimisim. Either defeat or a draw.
That would be just weird.
What has bought things to a head is that Chelsea made a firm offer. So other clubs may now follow suit - Man City usually pile in at this point. I don't get a strong feeling that Torres especially wants to come to the Blues, more that he simply wants to extricate himself from the underachieving lachrymose hell that is Liverpool.
it's just a case of getting a decent midfield behind it, and a marshalled defence behind that
We've got to be looking at cutting our spending very closely now in front of the new FA regulations, and juggling Tevez, Torres, Balotelli and Dzeko sounds like a scenario made in hell even assuming Real will actually buy Adebayor. Anyway he hasn't done anything in the last 2 years to suggest he's good enough for us
For all he's one of the very best strikers in the world, I'm not really sure which club other than Liverpool would suit him. There's no way he'll go to United (he's never done anything to prove he wasn't a completely honest, loyal and good human being - apart from handing in this transfer request).
Chelsea are an ageing team on the decline who are in a need of a pretty big overhaul in the next year or so. Question is, with pressure to invest in Russian football will Roman stump up enough money for this to happen.
City can obviously put up the cash, but would he fancy facing the competition for places alongside one or two other world class strikers.
Madrid is a no for obvious reasons, Barca simply don't need him (and Torres and Villa have never done anything to suggest they can play together effectively) so that leaves Italy really. Do any of the clubs there have a spare £50 million?
Maybe he will go to Chelsea, but I really do hope not as it would be a pretty disgusting sight. Obviously, as a Liverpool fan, I would like to see him stay. Long term preferably, but at least until the end of the season (just so we can see him play with Suarez - whose signing has unfortunately been overshadowed by all of this - and also so we'd have time to get a replacement in).
Then again, would £40-50 million be a great bit of business for a club that needs to rebuild and for a player who will always have serious injury problems?
Can I ask which bits you disagree with?
- If he's among the best strikers in the world, he should be able to adapt to pretty much any side/club/style of play. If he can't, he's not one the best.
- Handing in a tranfer request is, although devastating (I'm not laughing at Liverpool here, I'd be gutted if one of ours did it), pretty much as honest a way of leaving as it gets. It reflects much better on him than, say, Rooney's press release did on him.
- BUT if you are gonna measure a player's integrity on their reluctance to demand a transfer, you can't have it both ways with Fernando. Either he's failed in that respect or he hasn't.
- Tautological point regarding Chelsea's "ageing" and "declining" squad needing major revamping- if attempting to sign Torres despite knowing a huge fee is necessary isn't a clear sign the club understands that and will do something about it (in stark contrast to Liverpool in the last few years), what is? That's without even going into how Chelsea are current champions, FA Cup holders and are currently in the CL ...
- Villa and Torres won the World Cup together. Did they click as well as they might? No. Did the pairing destroy Spain or their chances? No.
- Why would it be disgusting for him to go to Chelsea? Because they don't have 'history'? Doesn't seem he cares.
- Does he have serious injury problems? He doesn't appear to have chronic, recurring injuries as such.
£40-50m would be a good deal for all concerned though, so I agree there. I know losing a talisman would hurt like hell and tbh, I kinda sympathise. But I think the thing that shines through here is that Liverpool players give it the big one about loving the club because they have to in order to satisfy the club's more rabid and myopic fans, not due to genuine sentiment.
they can play together effectively'
Played the majority of the games at the world cup together which if I remember rightly Spain won.
and they still would've won.
I really should of thought about 4th round FA Cup ties when I was picking Unis but oh well.
Now, Rickie, Guly, Alex, I want you to remember a few things.
You have to channel the greats
You have it inherently in you to fucking kick the shit out of em!!
Now go out there and prove yourself CHAMPIONS
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KnFE1BTjrc (Well this lot finished second but ya get me drift)
Cue getting thrashed 5-0 :(
that my nearest League One club is Walsall. Ah well. At least it's on TV.
Anyway, the likelihood is obviously that we'll get done but who knows. MAGIC OF THE CUP etc. Rafael and Evra both out so if Lallana's fit to start then I fully expect him and Oxo to tear them up ;)
There's not been a clamour for any particular new player, and certainly not Torres. Chelsea fans basically just want the existing squad to pull their finger out. Which might now finally be happening.
imagine how many times the wall guy got hit in the face when they were practising it
that has nothing to do with the cup, shock horror
i digress.. torquay vs crawley; as important as the playoff final 2 years ago for us? possibly... we are definitely the underdogs, amount of money crawley have spent exceeds all other league 2 clubs put together! am quietly confident though, hope we get more than 3.8 seconds of coverage on itv tonight as well
and his collection of injuries, suggests reasonable business. Although Liverpool would be astute to hold out til the summer.
Torres seemed genuinely passionate about Liverpool, and could comprehend his departure were it for ambitions related to winning silverware. But Chelsea? An ageing squad in decline and in need of a severe overhaul. Plus, in the short term, I don't quite see where he fits in to Ancelotti's rigid formation. They'll have to revert to 4-4-2 or accomodate Drogba or Torres wide.
Not sure how he's going to do that when he's not named in the squads for the PL or Europe.
If you think about it, he's not currently registered for Wolves is he, but they were planning on playing him.
I knew my poor use of tense would prove troublesome.
More excitingly, she subsequently married Jimmy Glass!
And by ' :-D ' I mean 'shhsgvbjaDLKYHVGHTF7FYkjashdLOL'.
Nicely timed to allow me to actually do this essay though.
suck it Watford.
Crawley beat Torquay in the most not-an-upset upset ever.
pr decent game actually, you just completely lack teeth up front.
picked up and played some class football towards the end when rodrigo and blake came on but still tried to pass it into the net instead of taking shots.
diving cheating time wasting cunts: Crawley Town Football Club.. horrible horrible wankers
With a player who tried to punch two Crawley players.
I'm going to be watching Oxo like a proud parent.
Fellaini ... I kinda like him, but he's one of the dirtiest players in football.
Southampton haven't beaten a team from the top flight since they were relegated.
Except in the previous round Clive, you utter gimp.
I'm seriously considering putting a contract out on Darron Gibson.
I'll bundle him into a sack in the tunnel. He's so anonymous on the pitch by the time anyone knows he's not playing I'll be miles away.
Actually, I'll do it for free. I reckon I could beat him with a sack full of tinned food for a month and not get tired.
The next 45 minutes are gonna be torture :/
I just feel like somebody ought to care, you know? And I do care, sort of, so there you go.
I'd care a lot more if I could find some decent picture galleries though. I don't even know what Uchida looks like anymore :-/
Possibly more boring than Everton-Chelsea, and that was B-O-R-I-N-G.
United will score 12 in the second half, but only after Gary Neville storms onto the pitch with a machete and decapitates Lee Barnard in the area.
great first half display. Was waiting for united to pinch one on the break but didn't happen. Then we were able to take one of out chances. Can we keep it up second half? pretty unlikely...
They've been good so far. We need to get the ball wide more often, play with some more pace. But Schneiderlin has been great, bossed the midfield and made Gibson and Anderson look like the chumps they are.
I may have a heartattack at some point.
and he's a better winger than Obertan.
Pretty chilling vision of the future United team
the least athletic midfielder I've ever seen at the club. His distribution is shocking and even his much-vaunted shooting is erratic. I'm amazed the Blackpool game wasn't the end of him, but hopefully this will be.
Evans was pathetic for their goal as well, just stepping aside while Chaplow drifted past him.
and still managed to catch Chiles sounding inbred.
Gibson for Giggs, 442, obertan on the right, lets have some width, lets put the strikers.......up front
evans for literally anyone else on the bench, in an ideal world.
Gutted but proud. Couldn't have asked for more - we were the better team in the first 45 and stayed positive afterwards. Everyone gave it their all: Chaplow, Schneiders, Oxo, Josie Font all superb. Guly and Harding gave it away a few times each but were absolutely tireless. Well done guys. Now let's go get promoted...
We've had the big cup tie, now we can push forward and get automatic promotion. The goals we conceded were hardly any different to ones we let in against league one sides.
Man United were awful, even after Giggs and Nani came on. How the hell Darren Gibson is prem player is beyond me. He got outclassed by bloody RICHARD CHAPLOW!
"Saints have much to be proud of" FUCK OFF
Lol. Can you tell i'm upset?
Patronising to Southampton, snidey to Utd ("the fans who made the trip from Manchester... if they ARE from Manchester" – dicks). Worst coverage ever.
We'll do what we want'
^This song. Urgh.
Big team please
nike are making our kits next season
Ba is a potential risk and has all the possible downfalls lined up by being good in FM and has a collection of snazzy YouTube vids.
Keane is less of a gamble I guess. In the 100+ Prem goals list and proven it internationally. On fire in pre-season and I totally forgot he scored 12 in 16 games for Celtic.
Cole's knees are knackered and the club is rather annoyed at Piq's recent actions, Obina's an inconsistent loanee and Benni Big Mac-arthy is a joke so not bad overall I guess.
Having said all that our problem hasn't been scoring goals. Maybe Hitz finally making his debut alongside Parker will change that, along with Collison (returning) and Barrera (actually starting a fucking game for once) to provide the service the other end.
Makings of a decent team there. Somewhere. Still only two points from safety, too.
Blackpool and Birmingham coming up are two MASSIVE games.
Very poor it looked yesterday. As mentioned above, Sam Ricketts is the most flat-footed man on this earth. We have a good starting 11, but our squad depth is killing us atm. We're runing on empty.
A couple of loan signings would do us reet., midfielder and another striker. SKD and Elmo looking very tired. Wolves midweek, very winnable game and would be great to boost the ol' confidence. Come on LADS.
is the timing.
Everyone can see why he wants to leave, having endured 5 years of broken promises. He's been lied to repeatedly by Rafa, Roy and G&H. Strangely though, now that we ARE seeing the first major investment in the team in years, he decides it's too little too late.
I'm perplexed over the timing. Just as the ship is steadied and everything is going well, he decides to do the worst thing possible to unsteady it. Rather than "help save the season and see out the deal like the professional I am" (as he said about a week ago), he's doing his best to spoil any progress we've made under Dalglish.
He knows that if we don't sell him there'll be a major rift in the squad until he leaves, undermining the entire notion of team spirit the new manager's working so hard to build. Just as he knows that if we sell him, we'll lose one of the best strikers in the world. Right at the end of the window, with no time to replace him.
Ideally we can agree a ridiculous fee today, preferably with a decent player thrown in. Offering cash + Sturridge for Torres is like offering cash + a kitkat for a Rolls Royce. We want as much of their money as we can squeeze from them, and we want a player who can walk into our first team.
I can't say I won't miss bouncing up and down with 10,000 Kopites singing the best song in the Prem, but Liverpool have a habit of losing and replacing superstar forwards. Let's hope Comolli is earning his keep and sorting one out as we speak!
are the main reason I want him ...
Let's be fair, you're hardly poets. Nine-clap 'TORRES' maybe?
BUT NOW HE'S GOT A PROPER JOB ...
Do you think it'll happen, wrighty? I think I'm just getting carried away with the excitement of it all.
He's leaving, either tomorrow or in summer. Preferably tomorrow!
The rivalry's back now though isn't it? Probably not for you any more since we're not competing, but our fans will want to beat you more than we have in years.
Could make next Sunday pretty incredible.
or so he thinks:
I like the look of him - he's erratic occasionally (a bit like Nani in that respect) but there's certainly plenty to work with and he'd provide a welcome injection of creativity. Whether or not the deal actually comes off is another thing, of course.
a better 'pot luck' punt than bebe, and we could have gotten him for£4m
Half an hour in he gestured to the bench to substitute him as if he'd been injured, when in actual fact he spat his dummy out and threw his gloves on the floor because the ref didn't award him a freekick...
Though I'm pretty sure Fergie could break him.
with that performance
Isn't that staccato run-up the same sort of thing La Liga referees have been ordering retakes for?
even though its cheating, Arsenal having to cheat to beat a side 50 league places lower than them... NO CLASS.
Bender's dive was shameful. Gutted Huddersfield.
Man U go out to a non league team or Steve Evans to concede double figures
It'll help to pay off the Glazers' loan debts.
under the automatic cup scheme. Great tie for Crawley though
come on boys, i want another trip to London.
On the plus side, Jamie O'Hara has joined us on loan until the end of the season, with the option to make the deal permanent for £6m. Depends on a) him getting back to form, and b) us staying up, but it could well be the signing the saves our season.
Stop playing Jo.
Guidetta or Chumley-Warner please
The chap who got a hattrick for Margate in 1994. He's a fireman, and there is a fire behind him, but rather than putting it out he's staring gormlessly into a camera.
1-0 Villarreal at ht. Rossi's having a fantastic season - it still irritates me that he wasn't given a fair shot at Utd, top player.
doesn't KIK usually put in his return on January transfer window deadline day?
and I agree, McCarthy has a head that attracts punishment, his admirable but fatal strategy of giving young championship standard players a chance is doomed and the sooner they are relegated and he goes back to offering humorous opinions upon international football the better
