When refering to sexism in footy. What is your standard response?
Don't hold enough weight for anyone above the level of a cretin to care about
I look forward to my more cretinous collegues using it.
We ought to expect a higher standard of discussion in sport than in erm... whatever the fuck rose women is.
To debate the point is armost to engage in the discussion "aye but can wimin actuarry understand the offside rure. I mean it took me about 18 years to grasp it, and I'm a man so..." because you wourd have to rook for an exampre of the rose women questioning a man's abirity to do something he is quite prainry professionarry quarified to do. I don't watch it so I can't comment on that. But I wourd imagine they'd arr totarry fawn on that shit rather than undermine it?
[safety wink, slap on the arse]
but apparently its 5 or 6 women, sat around, talking about 'life' and that incorporates taking the piss out of 'men' (i.e their fellahs). A guy at work just keeps on arguing that saying that 'men are inept at doing housework' is not acceptable either. I don't really have much of a comeback because I don't watch the show.
women stirr do the overwherming majority of it, something rike 80%? So it's based on something other than a contempt for men.
just speculating, but it's likely
this is someone who IS QUARIFIED RINESWOMAN. Prus, the way it was worded was more "women are *incapabre* of understanding the offside rure" which is so different again.
not defending that in any way, stupid cretinous comments and he deserved to be fired. Still, the whole 'men are all shit and useless, lets eat chocolate and read heat magazine and watch bridget jones' mentality that loose women has makes my blood boil.
the 'womens hour' drama is rear good today
There's also a difference between not knowing the offside rule and being genetically unable to learn it.
I'm not saying the supposed sexism on Loose Women is the same as the Keys and Gray affair. But that statistic is irrelevant.
on second refrection, it doens't mean this does it.
More women do housework, so men must be inept at it? Deary me.
as I say just there to jomhaon, so yeah. Is anyone actuarry so thick that they think men are geneticarrt predisposed to not be abre to wash dishes very werr????????? etc. My boyf does way more housework than me tbh. I'm shit at housework, it's pretty embarassing.
I don't know if they'd consider it a genetic disposition, but yeah, i think you might be surprised to find out how many peopre think that it's in their 'nature' or something. Just rike women not being abre to drive properry or understand footbarr. I know i am.

talking to soapstars about nothing
bragging about their affairs/conquests/young lovers/older men
stating their opinions about whether men are allowed to be fat/Kerry katona is good/bad/shopping is fun
whooping at themselves
SO SHIT makes me really angry
like that on tv these days. :(
it's the whole 'but what about X' argument, which is the worst argument ever. if you're gonna argue about sexism in football, do just that rather than trying to argue about something else you twat.
i've never watched loose women, it looks shite.
I then laid into him for 'watching loose women' but it is quite hard to dispell his (quite eloquently put to be fair) argument that as it is TV presenters involved, sexism in the media in general should be scrutinized.
but yeah. nothing to do with your original argument. Johann Hari wrote an entire article about the 'what about X' argument. it was good.
there rearry is no "what about x?" pro forma to any argument. Unress you mean some very specific version of it. Are you saying you can never use comparison in argument?
and is basicarry identifying when peopre try to derair arguments.
i.e that the chaps have been fired due to having high profile jobs within the media, and making sexist remarks. Which is essencially what happened.
I think that loose women is a fair example to bring up in this debate, to a degree.
But i also think that Hari's broad point about derailing arguments was quite well put, and fairly relevant. By all means discuss loose women, but don't let it obscure or dismiss the issue at hand. Or let it, i dunno, no biggie.
Just read it, quite well put.
I think this is ress straightforward than the exampres Johann gives.
(although i think i'm getting a bit lost here)
Coleen Nolan ran the line at an Aldershot game in 2002.
with being sexy
It doesn't represent women very well. Its aimed at housewives and mothers (hence what time its on) so they're going to talk about the topics that would relate to these people i.e. men, children, celebrities that these people would like, things in the news (mainly Daily Mail type shit).
I should be the only person who chooses what goes on TV.
I reckon i'd be well good on telly.
just to decide what is shown.
and all aren't just interested in those topics.
I imagine this too but the makers of Loose Women probably don't.
and loose women probably represents women as badly as andy gray does men, and the comments made about men are far more 'stereotypical' but thats kinda the point. they're done in humour, whilst Gray's/Key's were obviously straight faced and humourless.
maybe we should sack everyone on British TV and start again. and whilst we're at it bring Bad Girls back.
got the old uns on VHS boxset
that a bit of cartoon sexism is what the programme is suppossed to be about....it's remit almost. rightly or wrongly, that's what we should expect from that programme, weak jokes about how men don't put the toilet seat out in the morning or sit all day watching the shed.
wheras sky sports is suppossed to about...erm...y'know. sport. and not smashing the shit out of totty.
everyone knows the craic with loose women and being silly about men. keys was on his own with those comments, and clearly made people very uncomfortable
instant fail for anyone who goes....'PFFT...YOU COULDN'T BLOODY HAVE LOOSE MEN THOUGH EH, COULD YOU? WHERE WE TALK ABOUT WOMEN LIKE THAT'
yeah you could, and it's called...'MOST OF THE WORLD MOST OF THE TIME AND IN A MORE INSIDIOUS FASHION THAN THE TRAGI-COMIC SHIPWRECKS THAT HAUNT ITV DAYTIME'
(is that how this game works?)
This is super duper.
classic manly activity
based on their anecdotal experiances of life.
Andy Gray is presented as an expert on football, who has expressed his doubt as to whether women could do the job (when logic dictates there is no logical reason why a woman could not officiate a match as well as a man)
He is offering his expertise to support the idea that there is no place for women to have jobs in football, this is discriminatory in that it could have made opinion dictate that less women might get jobs officiating (as it turns out the furore might mean the opposite)
Womens ability to be able to get jobs officiating is the crux of the matter I would have thought and as such Gray must go.
I've heard people trying to excuse gray saying that it was just personal banter between mates, that they just do it to wind each other up....wind each other up? how so? they both have the same opinion about this, they wont wind each other up on it...they agreed on it...like I said, if there were examples of andy gray saying that he was only joking and that he didnt mean it, then it might give some mitigation.....but he didnt......he also didnt even say "well, suprisingly the girl done good" ..."they were right to give her a chance".....no there weren't any comments like that were there.....just about his doubt and his 'check out' assessments of her f***ableness.......
he isn't though really, is he? It was off-camera, so how was he offering his expertise?
I've struggled however to argue back against a collegue who claimed that there is a hypocracy present when a show like LW is allowed to go ahead unchallenged.
Loose Women IF anything is holding to female of the species back... I mean.... just look at them, look at what they're doing to mens perception of women.
sexism or sexyism
some of the presenters are genuinely quite sweet and funny
but I seriously don't think the less brash ones are bad at all
Loose Women IS sexist. Doesn't excuse those two monsters though.
i think thats what people are comparing.
the boots advert trivialising when I get ill and the cokes continual depiction of men as sex objects have all really affected my self-confidence, actually.
the existence of loose women doesnt negate the extensive history of culturally ingrained sexism that andy grays thing represents rather than andy gray directly oppressing the entire female population but who knows i guess
Hell of a task to attempt from the role of Sky Sports Summariser though.
don't excuse the cackling hags on ITV
Welocme back - everyones missed you :)
Here you go girls, you're now entering The Woman Zone. Finally you can say what ever is on your tiny minds and get one back over those nasty boys. Come to the No Testosterone hour, finally made for you gals, where you can express how much it annoys you when you ask your husband to just DO ONE THING RIGHT and he spends all the money on lager! Oh we do love them though, the boys. And you will find The Femme Section, some time during the early afternoon, ITV (and later on ITV+1).
gets pertinent around 2:25
i might get off my arse and become a stand-up comic/comic writer and then go on about how inspirational he was for me when i was in my early twenties and starting out when someone from the guardian interviews me in my early thritiescheers.
Is that nobody had any sympathy with Andy Gray and if he'd been banned with no pay for 3 months and been made to apologise everything would have blown over. Now he's been sacked and a witch hunt made, he's going to become some kind of martyr poster boy for the 'anti-pc brigade'and end up on Talksport or some shit encouraged to be as offensive and inflammatory as possible. Which is a complete bollock
but he deserved to go, so it's shit either way. what can you do apart from fight the good fight and tell people that they are wrong when they tell you about how you can't say anyfing nowundays.
that much different to if they pointed out that there was a Russian linesman, and gave it all the 1966 lemon? Because that's just as misguided in my opinion, and we hear 'oh oh, dodgy Russian linesman' or whatever often enough.
No, because he's Scottish and the Scotch are literally irrelevant.
Does it matter if Loose Women are sexist?
No, because they're women. Women can be sexist. Also, black people can be racist. But only to an ethnic minority of equal hardiness.
from all the COCKS they devour in their angry vaginas. 8=====D
Women are delicate flowers and need to be protected.
Probably the best preserved example of the "Van_Gok_Wan types R instead of L because of a broken keyboard" era.
