Good morning everyone.
For the shrewd Drowned in Sound user it might appear that I've had verry rittre sreep. It's because I have had rike no sreep :(
Courdn't sreep before 4.30am and now there's fuckraods of noise outside my frat, rike some guy drirring something or some shit.
marilyn, what do you use to colour your hair? Do you do it yourslef or hairdresser...am trying to get mine white blonde but is fighting me!
Thanks to my white blonde/tin tin/bros/swedish father I am blonde so it's easier. I do put henna blonde stuff on it though- because it doesn't test on animals.
If you have naturally dark hair you will need something with peroxide and ammonia I think?
will keep on bleaching :)
Not looking forward to day that much, but it will be okay I'm sure.
This morning I saw thewarn from the train, but he was the other side of the platform so i couldn't really say hi. observation: he has a cooler bike than me. (additional: not much would be less cool than my fold-up bike)
I got my bike stolen at the weekend, it was cool, maybe it was the warn!
Bike stealing is NOT cool.
Looked busier than normal.
possibly platform 2 - the one opposite where the bikes are locked?
I've actually finished and burnt that Low CD I promised you and sadpunk. I was thinking of flinging it across the platform to you but I wasn't sure how i was going to throw accurately out of a small window!
Hoping to have Tom Waits CDs done by Saturday...
I dithered for ages, then went on hiatus, and by the time i came round to making a decision mrs ccb had already arranged for us to be out in the afternoon and the evening...
I'll post the CDs today.
Not a great weekend. Slightly worrying week ahead. Will probably try and stay relatively clear of DiS until I cheer up/sort stuff out. Why did I even post this? Urgh.
as sad as it is, the banter of DiS really does cheer me up, but if I'm going to be a grumpy sod then I don't want to inflict on other people. I was so doomy yesterday, it was untrue. Think my hormones are playing up. Weirdly, chatting to my parents on the phone made me feel better. Didn't expect that.
You have been hacking Gordon brown's phone I see...
All this talk about woroking for a local paper! Bollocks News of the World scum!
Actually, I am trying to write a story on Andy Colson today, since he grew up in the area...
But no. The long and the short of it is, I got stood up. There's obviously more to it than that, and various other bits and bobs that can be over-analysed and interpreted, but that feels like the salient point. I don't really know how to react now.
It didn't help.
Just try not to think about it too much as it'll bring you down. People that stand you up are not worth your time! I don't understand why someone would do that. If you don't want to go out with someone, you should just say rather than doing something horrible.
A load of people from work went out Friday, it was great, really flirty, lots of good signals (though this is coming from me who can't read signals at all), and she arranged to come over Saturday evening to learn chess because she was doing her story on Sunday morning.
So Saturday, like a fucking prick, I clean my flat, beautify myself, go out and buy nice foods and a bottle of gin with all the trimmings. She calls at lunchtime saying she's having lunch with friends in London (which I knew) and that she'll see me later. By about six, I haven't heard anything, so send a friendly text. Nearly eight, and I phone her - no answer. Nine, send another message, no answer. By ten, sick of sitting alone like Miss Havisham in aftershave, I open the gin and get hammered.
Sunday, she calls about lunchtime and said she stayed in London later than she intended and ran out of battery.., then we exchanged a couple of meaningless texts in the afternoon.
I don't really know how to react now. Be stand-offish? Act like nothing's happened? She's clearly not as fussed as I am about the chance of anything happen.
God I sound like a wanker.
She's cleary a time waster and the best thing is to write that pony off. She seems to me to be one of those gilrs who will lead you on for a few more weeks as it makes herself feel better and then when you do finally, out of frustration, either make a move or ask her what's happening, she'll do the whole 'don't want a boyfriend really sees you as her closest mate' type bull. Also, what's her name and address, I will go around and bop her in the nose for you if you like!
I think you should make a move on her. Invite her out on a DATE rather than a friendly thing.
as monipenni and I are good cop/bad cop on relationships :D
But I am kind of with her on this.
Either way, it was poor form of her. I would be more than pissed off.
I'll happily aid monipenni in bopping x
She definitely should have called or somehow got a message to you to say she was staying in london a litte later than expected. Its awful when you go through so much effort to just be let down.
I'm not sure what you should do. If you want anything to happen with her, you should probably just forget about it and act as if nothings happened. Obviously its completely rude and not on for her to do that BUT you don't want her thinking you're a bit mental. Have you spoken to her today?
And she just excitedly reminded me Tool Academy is on later :(
I know everyone is talking sense and I should just cut and run. If I feel like I'm making excuses for her, I probably am. But it's difficult - it's not just that I've been single for so long (though I have), it's the fact that I haven't really liked anyone in so long (even when I probably should have and I've just been an idiot) and I'm reluctant to let that go if there's still a (tiny) chance that this was a misunderstanding and it could all be good.
I'm not going to be all "Why didn't you come round on Saturday? That really hurt" or whatever. I suppose I'll see how she acts. Maybe one more roll of the dice and if it doesn't work, at least I'll know.
Pretty much what I have just said in my message, in fact!
Quiet determination can work wonders.
1- you need to be careful. You work witjh her and you can't let this creep into work relatiopnships. Don't be cool or stand-offish. Be breezy and busy- definitely FAR too busy to talk to her for moer than a perfunctory minute at the coffee machine etc.
2- forget her. She reeks of YAWN anyway.
oh and 3- ((hug))
From what I have seen of you from DIS , you deserve someone much better who doesn't come up with lame-o excuses.
I wouldn't even want to be friendly with her.
Seriously, you deserve more - don't settle for less just because you want a relationship.
and haven't flung myself into any inappropriate relationships yet. Whether than makes me more or less desperate, I don't know.
I realise I've painted her pretty badly here, and maybe that's fair. But I haven't gone all gooey for her for no reason, there have been lots of nice reasons why I thought this might be worth something.
But yeah, if it happens again I'll post her details and let you all kick ass :)
Have you thought more about moving into London? Or getting some kind of a hobby, joining the gym? There are loads of girls out there just waiting to be boning (YES) but you need ot actually go and tlak to them. When it's right for you to get a girlfriend, you'll get one. In the meanimte, try and focus on enjoying life and friends, and all of that will come. trust me.
This would normally be the time where you're trying ever so hard to impress each other...
She could go in to any internet cafe in London and they would charge her phone.
But you know, if you still think it's worth pursuing then follow your heart!
Don't stay clear of DiS as we can help cheer you up.
Had saturday off for the first time in ages, so painted the ceiling in my en suite.
Yesterday finally finished the lyrics for a new song, I hate writing words, I'm always worried people will read into them.
My old ones were for driving only whereas the new prescription is for driving, computer use and reading. Consequently I've had people pestering me all morning asking "Since when have you been a Speccy Spec Mc-Specerson?" and looking befuddled when I reply "about three years".
The receipt for the pair I'm wearing described them as "rimless". I still chuckle at it.
served in a butter and sage sauce.
One of the nicest things I've ever eaten.
God bless you Gino!
I had an excellent weekend in Nottingham and did not want to leave. We played scrabble (I lost 2 but won 1!) and saw Blue Valentine....it wasn't what I expected and I'm still not sure on it. I liked the music though.
I have lots of work to do so should get off this but probably won't.
It really upset me. It was beautifully shot, but it made me so depressed about love and relationships.
because I didn't really believe theirs. I thought it was a good concept and it was beautifully shot but it didn't really make me think "ah everyones relationship is going to turn to shit eventually". I don't know if that was the aim of the film but it just didn't really convince me.
The end seen just reminded me of when I was little and my Mum and Dad got divorced and my Mum made a big game out of us moving out of my house, and I just remember being so upset that my Dad wasn't tucking me in to bed that night. It was awful.
It was really quite sad and depressing but I'm still not sure I liked it too much.
What I did like was The Future Room in the hotel. I'd love to stay somewhere like that. I thought it was really cool.
I loved the rotating bed!
This made me not care and want them to be unhappy. The contrast was too stark. I thought the child from a broken home was an easy emotional ploy in a film (I can see why with some people it resonated though). I'm glad they didn't stay together that would have been a COP OUT
I think it was more of a contrasting thing - how they were at the beginning to how they were in the end. She had many issues and he was so blinded by his love for her (or at least his idea about love) that he never really listened. It was a beautiful story.
I just found the two periods were far too different and the personalities were completely changed - to a point that there was no connection other than their resemblance to their younger selves - even though it was supposed to be less than, say, 5 years before?
how good was the rotating bed in the future room?
I'm going to find a hotel like that.
***** - would see again
I wanna read somehting rearry fucking interesting right now. What is rearry interesting? I have access to most journars. Pref something about poriticar phirosophy or something about some good documentaries?
Got back from Oxford at half 1 last night. Great weekend, but should have booked today off.
WHY IS IT ONLY 9:26 etc.
got a crass in a few hours shit
Fri - roast duck in red wine sauce
Sat - kipper fishcakes then haggis, leeks with pine nuts, cabbage and chestnuts and mustard mash
Sun - reuben sandwich
Hoping to hear about the interview today but first I have a morning with my mum to contend with
All that food sounds so good. I'm very jealous.
I had to do a presentation which I really hate but they seemed really impressed with my idea for it. It seems quite a high pressure job but I think I need that or I'd be on here all day otherwise.
I definitely need to get a new job that makes me work all day so I don't sit on here.
could you be my DiS correspondent and fill me in on what I miss?
I'd have to do some social network stuff as part of it though so I could just say I'm spamming the forums with work stuff.
I can email you a weekly round up of whats been happening!
Friday: Dinner at Wahaca, then to the cinema to see Monsters (wonderfully crafted world on such a low budget – obviously the work of someone who’s played Half-Life and STALKER and understands how you make a location, and how and when to go for the big reveal. 7/10)
Saturday: walk in Epping Forest then coffee in Loughton. After that it was CHERYL, in Bethnal Green, which was great – I’m still finding glitter and stars on my pillowcase.
Sunday: Catfish (now available on DVD from local libraries, if you missed it at the cinema). It started off like a bad hipster version of The Hills and ended up unbearably sad. I really hope it’s a true story, because if it’s not, the whole thing is pretty insulting and in very bad taste. 7/10.
This week I’m seeing Saul Williams. Yeah!
I managed to dodge the fake blood and gaffer tape.
Weekend of awesomeness, which I shall bullet point for you.
- 10 hours of pain leading to my tattoo now being MASSIVE, which at first scared me but now it's sunk in I love it.
- Sat night spent with my ex girlfriend and her Dad and her boyfriend. Film watching and sloe gin good times.
- Sunday making music with said ex girlfriend which was great after a long time not making music. Think we'll start a new band, which will be nothing like what we did before.
- Sunday an evening bromance; me and meths watched Lethal Weapon 2.
- Monday morning - tired and hungover.
Did you know that David Byrne was in Brixton, at the Ritzy, on Thursday night?
i even metnioned it in a thread about something.
i couldnt get a ticket tho :(
was barely quarter full.
well i guess seeing him in person is likely to sell more than a screening.
is the film good?
(back stage interviews and rehearsals in black and white, intercut with the performance in colour), but everyone in the team seemed to really get on, and the dancers were cool.
Week off college so I'm filling for the manager that left my place of work for the week. The commute is pretty rough cost-wise though, 8.40 a day. The shop is a pretty quiet one though so hopefully I'll be able to get something productive done.
I didn't know Saul Williams was touring Marckee?
just a London date and a Paris date.
I keep meaning to catch him live. What size venue is he playing over in London? When he played here last he was playing a very, very small venue.
which is, I think, about 250 capacity. Last time I saw him was at Cargo, which is about 350, if memory serves.
Peen is Meths, not me.
I can't be bothered to elaborate at the moment. I'll let you know if get the urge later.
JUST REMEMBERED: TOOL ACADEMY TONIGHT!
Panic interview prep today. No other work is going to get done.
I'm trying to work out it's connection with Manowar?
Sadly, Moker is playing the week AFTER we're there.
Sore from footie yesterday, stiff neck from heading a lot of high balls, a massive bruise APEaring on my right ankle/calf and a slight swelling on my ankle. Ibuprofen Monday.
Just finalising plans to go to New Zealand for a month in Aug/Sep. WHOOOOOOP!
Weekend was good.
Friday went to my fella's mums for the weekend. Spent the day in Cambridge on Saturday - it was really beautiful, but super busy, Sunday it was his Grandparents 50th wedding anniversary, which was lovely, and then went home and watched Blue Valentine - after spending the day with a couple who have been together for 50yrs and then watching that movie, really upset me. I was a sobbing mess.
nervous now though. Running out of time to find something new before I get kicked out of my current accommodation. Anyone in London looking for a flatmate? I'm pretty clean, am able to clothe myself unassisted and I only listen to The Lighthouse Family very occasionally.
Plus your rent would be £940 excluding bills.
But it's on Portobello Road...?????
I am on the kind of salary that most people not living in London would class as *modest*. Cheers for the offer though!
I don't pay that, my flatmate does but he has a much bigger room.
He's going to new York soon.
Has destroyed my sleeping/waking clock, but worth it - very good food (out and about and home made) good little trips and adventures in our local hangouts and a lot of very drunken conversations. Pretty unbeatable considering the flat was permeated with illness.
Friday night I went to see Roald Dahl's Twisted Tales at the Lyric. It was very good, but I think I judged it unfairly to Ghost Stories as it was a similar set up, both written by Jeremy Dyson and both at the Lyric. The betting on lighting the lighter in exchange for the guy's finger was a highlight, always loved that story. Work was pretty intense though so I was wiped and went to bed.
Saturday I played rugby. After the horribleness of the previous week, this game was a delight. Top vs 2nd, and they were a great bunch of guys, hard but fair. Unfortunately I got a "stinger" in the second minute. I battled on because we only had 15, but I was the end of a couple of big tackles landing on my shoulder and I was harming my team's chances so I had to go off at half time. Movement is only just about coming back. We won 22-17 to leapfrog them and go top. I then had some haggis and whisky and then went to see Black Swan which was AMAZING.
Yesterday I nursed all the hundreds of cuts, bruises and muscle spasms I've acrued over the rugby season so far. And had a massive curry.
And today, all the stuff I've spent the last year working on comes to fruition, and our new TV ad goes live! So excited.
Added a little too much barley and orzo as 'filler', so it's going to feed us for the rest of the winter.
Um, today marks the start of a serious attempt at a healthier lifestyle. Let's see how well that goes down when I hit wednesday and want curry and 14 lagers. Oh, and tomorrow is burn's night and I'm going to a party. And it's the open mic on Thurs, Zonino on Sat. Rob- why are we doing this again?
Open mic because the landlord will keep giving me free drinks if I bring in business.
Zonino.... I got nothing. ;)
that's far too early.
Great weekend visiting my niece, she's learned to smile since I last saw her, it's amazing.
Pretty decent week ahead featuring lots of football, a work pool tournament, cinema visit and a trip back home to cook for my pa's birthday. Anyone ever done venison wellington before? Any tips?
Tere are several ways to do it, but the best I've found is simply to follow exactly the same process as for beef. make your mushroom duxelles a day or two before if you can. And just buy the pate insetad of making it, unless you're determined to make this into a mammoth task. (ditto the pastry).
I'm going to do the duxelles the evening before. I was thinking about trying with homemade shortcrust pastry rather than puff though, an unwise move do you think?
once you've seared the meat. let it go stone cold before you go onto the next step. I don't understand the science, but it all seems to hold together better if you do.
Pretty coherent for a 2am sleep note, well played
You can't get them transferred.
There's a new girl at work. He name is Brigeeta or something. I reckon I'll accidentally call her Higuita at some point. She doesn't have his dreadlocks though.
Weekend was good after a slow start. Finished off the first series of the wire and there was plenty of football to watch as planned. Didn't plan all the beer my flatmate bought though, so that was a dubious bonus for what I was hoping, would be a weekend off from abusing.
