also, naturey/scenic holidays > beachy holidays > city holidays
put 3 in front of 1 and you're on
beachy holidays are the WORST
I think of a holiday as a chance to get away from the city and relax or at least go somewhere with a totally different feel. I'm all up for a city break but they're never much of a holiday for me as I'm not that relaxed afterwards.
If you live in the countryside then I can understand the idea of going to a city for a holiday more.
where there is no internet access and I can turn my phone off. That's me though and I realise that might sound weird to some people.
going to a different city and spending a week drinking and going to see bands.
I guess I don't particularly come back feeling "relaxed" but, eh, whatever. I have a good time and see something outside my own little world and that's the fun part. I'd go stir crazy if I was in a resort somewhere in the middle of nowhere surrounded by other tourists .
Actually most time I make it to a city for a break there's usually a band or two that's drawn me there. And yeah I'm not relaxed afterwards but that wasn't the point anyway.
As for going to a resort and hanging around other tourists I totally agree, but you're forgetting the option of going somewhere not full of tourists and doing activities besides laying on a beach.
i got a bit overzealous about exploring cities a few years back, and ended up coming back from my 'break' more exhausted than when I'd started. By the same token, being immobile for the whole trip would make me fidgety.
Howeevr, give me a city by a beach with nature a quick drive away, and i'm happy. Mix it up a little and all that.
Has everything you just mentioned.
but in a different location
I'm not one for holidays. Especially beaches. Beaches can fuck right off.
It does however have a fucking lot of bars and pubs.
Plus it's May so it won't be too hot!
I'm going to send Bamos to the nudist bit and then run away.
Feel what it's like to be Theo for a day
Where the fuck is Theo? I haven't seen him on here since that thread!
not that long before the site when down, in fact.
The sea is probably my favourite thing ever ever ever.
Beaches are alright for a few hours if there's loads of you, but beyond that not really my cup of tea
so beachy holidays are a bit of a no no. also, sand is shit. Its hot to walk on and it gets everywhere. I don't like it. I don't like the sea either.
I haven't been away for years and years but would chose a city break over a beach holiday anyday. ALSO I get really bored so find it impossible to relax.
but a whole week of exploring a city or hiking in the hills would leave me shattered. If push came to shove I’d drop the beach, but I like to mix it up a bit.
If anyone can recommend a city with a nice beach, sunshine, wonderful architecture, lovely people and great bars and restaurants, I’d go there.
I’ve already been to Barcelona, obviously. And Newcastle.
Tough one with just doing a beach only holiday is if you get completely burnt on the second day and you are forced to stay indoors. I did this day two of my Moroccon beach holiday. It was awful.
I definitely like to get a bit of sun though, preferably whilst doing something else. Like exploring!
I've decided I also like going in boats.
Best kind of holiday. You get to ski all day, eat amazingly fatty food and drink so much at night and still lose weight. There is no better feeling then carving through fresh powder.
A city break with a nice villa or hotel pool and sun bathing terrace is the perfect compromise.
There's so much to do. Sandcastles! Burying people! General frolicking!
Guess who wants to go on a skiing holiday?
but I have been to the indoor place in Leeds which was great and I do REALLY want to go on a skiiing holiday. The person who really wants to go skiing is my dad! :D He's been on at me for years to go with him (my mum refuses to go) but I'm a little scared of flying. I'll let him know you'd like to go.
With an instructor. I didn't.
I don't think I could do it- I'll do most things, but skiing makes me feel claustrophobic.
All that exertion. It's s'posed to be a holiday.
repeatedly throwing up/shitting in the hotel bathroom. The last holiday I went on was spent in a delirious haze in a well crafted bulgarian toilet (His & Her sinks no less!) and in my more lucid moments watching 'The mask 2' and 'Space Jam' (among others) dubbed in Bulgarian.
A small part of me misses that bathroom, we went through some bloody difficult times together, I kind of want to go back and put a plaque up.
preferably in v warm temperatures.
but in private.
I spent the World Cup in a villa in Spain. Note: bbq, hot tub, pool, full stocked bar with big telly in it, and mate sunbathing in socks lol
I get terminally bored and burnt doing nowt. But I'm starting to get the 'taking it easy' thing. Normally I return from a 'holiday' knackered and needing a week off to recover.
Does anyone really do solely either of the first two things mentioned?
