I'm seriously thinking about doing this and wanted some pointers!
and what a guitar it was

do you have a workshop? when you say 'build' do you mean the whole thing or are you assembling bits?
do the body myself from a block of wood, but i'm undecided about the fretboard; might be a lot easier just buying and assembling that, but would prob make my own head.
obviously, all the electrics, and a floyd rose i can just bung on and wire in.
so apart from the body, i guess i'll be assembling
for leik a mutant lefthanded jazzmaster with a humbucker & skinny ibanez style neck. I WILLwATCH THIS THREAD WITH INTEREST
Pointers: it's really easy to build a guitar if you don't expect or need to be able to play a tune on it or for it to sound good/like a guitar. :)
I've kind of bolted together bits of various guitars to make some kind of strat-thing, but not one from scratch.
It'd be something to be proud of I suppose but I can't imagine it sounding like anything but shit.
the price was 800 squid, which i simply can't afford/justify, but when you look at the separate parts, it's not anywhere near that amount
and plus, there's loads of people who make their guitars, so why not?
brian may's (not the best example) was made by his dad out of an old mantlepiece and he's been using it for years.
tbh, the most important thing is the type of wood and the pickups, everything else is just functional
I thought it'd be really difficult and involve crucial microscopic margins of error.
found a good cheap website
planning to get one, learn how to do it, and then do the whole thing from scratch...
