wasnt very funny was it?
is it supposed to be a sitcom? thats a genuine question.
just feels like it's been done already with Curb and Extras.
I didn't even come close to laughing once. Not even a knowing smile.
Very slow. Will give it another couple of episodes but it was very underwhelming.
The irony of the storyline is that the show itself is a Matt Le Blanc vehicle for the BBC.
he wasnt even in it.
for 5 seconds. He looks quite good grey I thought.
but I did like the girl who looked disgusted, and I feel like it could get better. Probably not much better though.
Was the scene Richard Griffiths was acting out supposed to be kind of crap and not funny? (The first time he did it with the English accent) Is that part of the joke? Or were we supposed to think it was great?
Still not funny though. On the up side, the Malcolm Tucker ad afterwards must mean The Thick Of It isn't far away
But as I said last night, it's not funny, the characters are unlikeable and the incidental music is really ruddy annoying.
It's got 30 more minutes.
I couldn't quite get over how formulaic the whole thing was, at one point I was thinking "oh god they're actually doing driving in the convertible down the palm trees lined road cliche" and using british actors as americans (that horse faced girl)... but it hasn't got to the raison d'etre of the program baout flogging UK stuff to yanks - soooo once it gets there I will wait patiently for it to improve.
If not I shall rant about it being theis year's Hyperdrive to anyone that will listen.
Steven Managan and Tamsin Grieg = winner shirley? I've taped it, will watch at some point.
Now I'm not quite sure what to expect.
Not loling all over the place funny, but really watchable and a few chuckles in there. Decent start.
Plus Stephen Mangan is always better when he's a bit manic and pressured and Tamsin Grieg is better angry. Definitely seems like that's where the show is going so should improve.
I have no idea how a script like this gets commissioned and made. I'm sure the premise seemed quite good when they thought if it, but there are no jokes to be had from it. Also didn't quite understand why they were shocked that they wanted an American actor in an American remake? Made no sense.
incredibly slow, you could see the "jokes" coming a few minutes before they were delivered.
odd that the show was written by two American mainstream sitcom veterans, the people behind Friends and Mad About You, who clearly wanted to do a Curb Your Enthusiasm and I don't think it was clear they had the inside knowledge to do anything about British comedy or the focus to really satirise the Hollywood lives they themselves are living.
What we saw of the History Boys-alike sitcom was terrible. Are we supposed to think their show was great and this is about the couple protecting their masterpiece form yank idiot tampering, or is this about two smug fools who struck gold with a shit comedy show?
The whole "celebrity plays themselves as an arrogant wanker" thing obviously been done before much better, the only possibly chuckleworthy idea was the replacement of Uncle Monty with Joey was wasted as it was so, so slow....
might iplayer the next episode if and when I am desperately bored just to check what Le Blanc is doing.
I felt as though they’d just taken a list of successful sitcoms from the last few years and cherry picked the ‘best’ stuff. Curb Your Enthusiasm has REAL People in! Let’s have real people! 30 Rock has a crazy network executive! Let’s have a crazy network executive! Ricky Gervais is British! Let’s have some British people!
Also, starting with a shocking/extreme scene and then cutting back to ‘7 weeks earlier’ or whatever is one of my least favourite Narrative Devices Currently Fashionable On Television.
green wing cast! joey! written by crane! but boy was i let down
the intro sequence is poor, the incidental music was grating, and i barely laughed once
im off to rewatch arrested development
When did all comedies start just trying to be American and stop being funny? They seem more concerned about how the series premise reads on a press release than actually having any laughs in there?
Another in a long line of comedies which are perfectly watchable, but not overly funny.

And possibly Saxondale, even though I quite like it.
FUCKING HELL 'THE THICK OF IT', I NEED YOU NOW.
surrounded by 25 minutes of that boring stuff 'A cock and bull story' was drowning in?
Maybe I should see the last 4...
I loved Lead balloon too
Loved Jack and loved Magda
I was constantly laughing watching it.
Lead balloon was dogshit though
I might watch it next week, in case Matt Le Blanc on his own saves it, but I suspect that'll be all.
It reminded me of that Simon Amstell thing in that, whilst I could see the premise, whilst the idea was good enough (derivative, but derivative of good stuff) that I'd tuned in, the execution was just incredibly poor. No laughs, truly odd scenes - the audition when he was doing it in his English accent, wasn't funny, couldn't have been funny,it didn't contain anything to laugh at. Fuck knows how they won any of their fictional BAFTA's.
meant to be funny? Or was it meant to be shit? Why didn't they put some jokes in? Maybe it'll be funny when Leblanc does his interpretation. Doubt it though.
It's over for us as the dominant force on this planet.
Then I remembered that what I was watching was supposed to be a sitcom and I found it much more believable.
Find her very irritating, not sure why
(I did watch it though and thought it was terrible)
I'm leaving you.
I think she is lovely.....but not so good in this.
(The blonde woman with the biggish teeth was also in green wing (I actually think she is quite hot too....but not as good as Tamsin)
There are two people, right, and they're normal. But they live in a universe where everyone else is just slightly but unrealistically mentally retarded.
OK I GET IT THE BLONDE GIRL DOESN'T LIKE OR UNDERSTAND ANYTHING YET SOMEHOW SHE HAS STILL GOT A JOB AS IN TELEVISION PRODUCTION AND APPARENTLY NO ONE HAS NOTICED GOOD JOKE HAHAHAHAHAHAHA SHE CAN STOP GURNING NOW THANKS
She wasn't funny, interesting or attractive.
it was a bit creepy.
watched this last night - as many people have already stated; where were the jokes? Incredibly weak, I only let out a "ha!" when Managan walked into the fake pillar. The blonde girl gurning all the time = what the fuck was that about?
I actually thought the best part was when they were trying to get into their house past the security guard, who was the funniest character in the whole thing and he was playing it completely straight. "They're not in."
Will give it one more chance, if not = bin.
i don't know what they're aiming for, apart from that.
I'll stick to entourage.
It's been commissioned for a second series!
Is it being shown in America as well?
I hope in the second series is set in Britain with Ardal O'Hanlon in the Matt Le Blanc role and an American script writing team of twenty people replacing Grieg and Mangan. There will be no jokes.
more a comedy drama type arrangement.
