It's really REALLY shit now isn't it?
It used to be a bit shit, with a token 'fun' story tacked on the end such as a squirrel stuck in a post box but now it's just a less good Newsround shown at a later time.
Most of it isn't even news. Second item last night was Sepp Blatter thinking about employing a small team to investigate corruption. Ok guys, we get it - you're still fucked off about not getting the World Cup. However this would be item 5 on the BBC Sport homepage right now, let alone the national bulletin and it definitely didn't warrant a guy telling us his opinion on it (which was essentially "Yeah, let's see what happens... murmur murmur... 2064 maybe?"
The Day Today doesn't seem silly enough anymore. Charlie Brooker's review of 2010 made me realise this. Plus all the people here at work who flew from Heathrow over Christmas tell me the airport was relatively fine and the situation dealt with brilliantly, whereas the news portrayed it as SNOWAGEDDON.
I've stopped reading The Metro. Mainly as it's NOT news and because it pisses me off. I've even cut back on reading proper papers as they seem to be self-destructing left right and centre. See Vince Cable's 'exposure' over his views on Murdoch.
So yeah, THE NEWS. You can talk about things to do with THE NEWS in here, be it facile quotes from The Day Today, things which you don't think are technically news or ideally links to things which got buried on News Years Day amongst the hungover festivities and which are worthy of some DiS time.
