Carrot and Turnip on the hob now. Purple Cabbage about to go on.
save fucking around on Christmas day. Job. Done.
Braised purple cabbage, mashed carrot and turnip, boiled tatties (to be roasted) and bread sauce.
The dead fat lady would be proud.
Ok. But I still have my suspicions.
Can you post me some of your xmas dinner in a jiffy bag for appraisal?
You still at the same address?
You mean parsnip? Or are you just a weirdo?
IN SCOTLAND THEY'RE INTERCHANGEABLE IT WOULD SEEM.
Mashed carrot & turnnip/swede ftw.
Took me a while to get the hang of it.
make sure to add lots of sugar and pepper<3
It's not Christmas without the Christmas Day rush / eating hours after you're meant to.
espeially seeing as our turkey just got delivered and is 50% larger than it should be...££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££
I'm going to do chestnut stuffing for my turkey, I've never done chestnut stuffing before, come to think of it I've never even bought chestnuts before, I'm not even sure if I've tasted one. I'm mildly excited at this whole chestnut buying/ cooking/ stuffing/ tasting experience.
Please feel free to share with me any chestnut anecdotes or tips you may have
we used 1kg of sausage meat in it....Mmmmmm...then we froze a load of it and ate it in July.
sounds like it's going to be yummy...we are having sprouts a la heston (y'know from that advert) Mmmmmm
We've not done dinner for two yet, i guess it may happen at some point, probably not for 50 odd years through i reckon..
My sophisticated web filter knows your game.
Are you cooking it at 30 degrees or something!!!!!???
It is xmas eve today isn't it?
Yes, it is................................
that's my contribution to the christmas dinner. I will display it on a board on the day.
I trust you've a large stilton wedge?
I also have brie, cambozola, gouda, emmenthal, extra mature cheddar, garlic & herb roulade & Ossua Irraty (a french sheep's cheese). Going to pick up a bottle of Port too. Christmas is all about the cheese.
everyone knows Christmas is all about pigs in blankets.
so disappointed that today i'm going to get my own stash of cheese. I'm going for a blacksticks blue, a big goats cheese and some kind of garlicy number.
And probably won't get a chance to eat any of it.
Fuck knows what mine are called, but there's a good mixture of crumbly, salty, hot, soft&melty, and solid but creamy etc.
Busted it out last night. It's one of my very favourite things about xmas.
I've got some lamb shanks, mint, rosemary, garlic, and stock in the slow cooker, to go with some freshly made mash. MMmm winter warmth.
Tomorrow it'll be a lighter meal of Aberdeen Angus cheeseburgers with salad.
Christmas Day... bacon sarnies for breakfast, lunch is toast and ardennes pate, then roast duck legs and roast potatoes (in the duck fat) with orange glazed carrots and pigs in blankets. For fill-up later on the remaining duck bits will be crispy fried in an assortment of oriental flavourings and chucked in some pancakes.
