probably the best show on tv atm.
Celeb edition on bbc2 now. Deborah Meaden actually smiled!
Occasionally it wrong-foots me, but most of the rounds are pretty straightforward.
Think people get drawn into taking a risk more when there's the money at stake. And some people are just stupid..
What are the hardest gameshows? Hardest at the top:
Mastermind (Specialist topics)
Countdown (because I'm shit at it)
Who Wants to be a Millionaire (above £50,000)
Mastermind (General knowledge)
The Weakest Link
I can't think of any others I've seen recently.
is the last round is often an utter fucker. It's not too bad for getting through to the final but actually winning money is way tougher than, say, Millionaire...
I saw one about Thomas Hardy novels the other day. I laughingly thought "I bet the Woodlanders is pointless, no one will ever have heard of it except sad English students like me". I was wrong.
Probably just underneath University Challenge.
is surprisingly tough sometimes.
There is no way your average ten-year old would get that kind of thing without being prepped.
does trip you up.
What's Only Connect btw? Never heard of it
Presented by Victoria Coren. I used to love it, but I got a bit sick of how smug it is. You have to work out sequences and connections between things, and most are spectacularly out there. I remember one set of connections was pictures of mushrooms, a skiier, some roman coins, and a flag... The connection was double "i", because they were Shiitake mushrooms, skiing, dinarii, and the flag of Hawaii or something... mental.
An acquaintance at uni was a serial gameshow contestant - he did the Weakest Link, Brainteaser, and the new Krypton Factor, where he was an absolute embarrassment. Don't be like him.
I find order of difficulty to be:
Mastermind Specialist subjects
then all the easy ones including Pointless (tends to have kinda thick people on it, no?)
Brain of Britain on radio 4 is worth a listen. More my sort of questions too.
My three were Dylan, Oscar Wilde and Ghandi.
My housemate and I auditioned for it and won the audition rounds, but they didn't let us on. I no longer watch it.
