(sub)yay or (sub)nay?
yay: after a night out
(the romford one is open until 3am - 3AM!)
i think i'd go there more if it wasn't for their policy of pumping out italian herb bread smells on to the street.
no need to thank me
Though I havent had one in ages. I could eat an Italian BMT with onions and tomatoes right now. Mmmmm.
walking into one makes me nervous
steak, cheese and egg sub with a coffee for £2? That's yer Big Society right there.
Even if being a veggie means I have pretty much the same thing every time. Their prices can GTFO though.
but their new sandwich in the ad that's been on a lot recently looks really nice. Has anyone tried it?
Not that advertising works on me or anything.
but I still find myself going and eating there.
Footlong italian BMT, toasted, with extra cheese, lettuce and cucumber. NOM.
If I'm out and about and it's gonna HAVE to be some kind of fast food.
Vegetarian one with TONS of jalapenos and olives.
the sausage and egg ones hit the spot.
I have lived in belgium where they make proper fresh bagettes with REAL ingrediants rather than processed plastic
'I can't spell' post
have you considered a job in marketing? or the tory party? or used car sales? or conveyancing?
you remind me of when Mike Barlow got alzheimers.
I would think you are hot.
But you are, so I don't.
I think its your username and posts that I find attractive.
except substitute "Belgium" with "several towns in the UK where they have pretty much any sandwich shop that isn't Subway".
but only if I'm getting one, anymore gets confusing around the salad options.
A mare when you are getting several
you're right though - getting several would be a mare
But I don't moan when a group decision leads us there.
so the serviettes have pictures of Lady Di on them?
It's horrible, it tastes really unlike anything normal and fresh, it smells and I've seen a few less than salubrious looking ones.
OK, I will. But you do realise that that means I'm not going to eat here, don't you Subway?
They're franchises, so service levels vary a bit. It's a kinda benchmark place. Don't make a point of going there but it rarely disappoints when I do go for it.
Veggie delite ("A bit of everything, please") is nice enough but far too pricey for what it is. Although a footlong is pretty filling, I guess. Veg pattie isn't much cop really, and costs even more so I don't even bother with that.
Generally clean and tidy enough. Generally have a sign on their toilet saying out of order (yeah, right).
Though this thread has made me realise that I haven't been there is more than a year if not longer actually
Its actually making me fancy one now. I could go for one of the hot turkey ones with bacon and cheese and loads of red onion.
but a big NAY after I've just had one
see also: KFC & MacDonald's
plastic food for an age of plastic
to use a parallel example - i love making my own burgers with decent mince a few herbs etc etc. and they taste lovely. (and i love this kind of thing in pubs / restaurants too). but then i also like the occasional trashy Quarter Pounder meal from McDonald's. Both can be tasty, though I wouldn't compare one with the other.
also (re: baguettes / sandwiches) - there are some lovely sandwich shops in Cambridge but some are fucking repellent. Subway is somewhere in the middle.
but I don't really see the point of appeal in having a really low standard baguette. If I wanted a fast, greasy sandwich I'd get a cheese and ham toastie, mmmmm.
I don't really buy subway that often but i have no problem with them in principle. i make my own sandwiches for lunch; if I'm in town for the day then there are loads of places i'd rather go than there.
then I would have a greggs pastie or a bombay badboy.
I think the marketing adds to the annoyance....'have it your way' ???really? I can CHOOSE whats in my sandwich.....thank you.....I can choose from a range of pretty shit ingrediants (apart from the presence of jalapinos) to make up an awful sandwich that had 'Processed cheese' instead of being able to CHOOSE between wenslydale, cheddar, brie etc?
with Jalapeños, Green Peppers, Red Onion, Lettuce and Tomato, and Southwest Sauce.
I haven't had one in ages. Should probably keep it that way.
The rest of it is is a little over-priced. I don't think it's by any means the worst food place on Earth though.
all the salads except olives and lettuce, toasted, extra cheese, honey mustard.
I've not been there in aaaaaages though.
ate a footlong.
They serve Strawberry fanta over here which is a good close approximation for Irn Bru.
*To Iranian guy, mid 20's*
"Hello Sir, what would you like?"
"6 Inch Sub of the day on Hearty Italian Please"
"Cheese and Toasted?"
"Any veggies sir"
"Can I have everything apart from olives and jalapeños"
"Barbecue please, and can I have some ground pepper?"
*British guy with posh accent and loads of tattoo's*
"Any thing else with your sub? Cookie, crisps?
"Ok, that'll be £2.30"
I have this exact conversation at least once a week. No deviations. I love subway.
I can just go to Greggs.
Not since 2006 anyroad. Can's see any reason why i would now.
Well, not everything that happened.
Just what affected your decision?
but since I stopped eating meat the place is just a big fat disappointment. The veggie patty things taste like newspaper.
I remember in 2005 I was an undergrad in halls quietly spending an evening watching Spaced with a mate, when another friend called Dave stumbled in around 1am with a footlong meatball sub, crashed onto the bed next to us and sat there for about 10 minutes not saying anything, before asking what we were doing and why we were occasionally laughing. We told him we were just watching Spaced. He informed us he couldn't even see it. Then he fell off the bed, launched himself out of the door and was gone, leaving meatballs everywhere. True story.
I wish we had Croissant Express in the UK.
it's nice enough, but very expensive
Even though when they ask if I want cheese on and toasted bread in the same question and I reply "cheese no, toasted yes" they always reach for the cheese while pushing the roll along; even though the bloke serving in my local has worryingly few front teeth and adds "boss?" to the end of every question; even though the sauce more often than not sticks the paper together, even though the BBQ rib comes as some sort of paste... 6" Hearty Italian steak and chicken, toasted, no cheese, just lettuce, BBQ sauce, nothing else thanks, how much?! - thems is tasty.
I'd wager being blown by a porn star, whilst watching a sandwich being made has the edge.
6 years ago. Always interested to see what my opinions were and how they've changed. I think subway is actually ok. Would choose it over a maccy D's but generally just get falafel if I'm out and about. Had a pakora naan sandwich tonight for dinner for €4,50 and it was sensational.
