This makes me feel physically sick.
As someone has already suggested, reducing the teaching grant by 80% should help.
by charging them extortionate fees? Is that not right? Why would we want to stop them coming here?
but it originates from the Home Office, with the intention of reducing immigration.
But yes, overseas students are a cash cow that the universities will need even more in future.
is anything happening on thursday for the fees vote btw? I'm around in London, might drop by parliament and shake an angry fist.
come along, join us!
what time are people getting there?
not exactly sure of meeting points. Might be complicated like last time. Anyway, just find the crowd. We won't be far from parliament.
File this latest development under "meh" along with trying to privatise the NHS, increasing VAT, slashing legal aid and the latest tuition fees fiasco. Wake me up when they're all dead, will you?
rightly or wrongly, a lot of the talk about this (which has been going on for months) really centres on non-higher education institutions e.g. language courses and bogus business schools. Don't know why the fuck they would want fewer non-EU students at universities though.
Utterly incredible. What a bunch of fuckwits.
Which would allow EU students to go home without paying up. "Alan Johnson says he has changed his mind about a graduate tax and believes there is now a "strong case" for the policy."
Yeah, good one, guys. Remember, before you leap onto the other side of the blue-red see-saw: current shadow chancellor Mr Johnson being responsible for helping steer tuition fees through the Commons under Blair.
And we shouldn't forget that the Tories apparently opposed tuition fees whilst in opposition, but are fully on board now.
Why are the three main parties being so massively hostile toward higher education?
I'm going to ask you to explain why (afaik) FUCK ALL ELSE to do with decent provision/funding/structuring of HE level education/training/skills development/apprenticeships has been included in this whole policy.
The same applies to so many other coalition policies. It's not always the headline cuts that I'm massively against.
What invariably riles me is the fucking useless provision or (more commonly) the complete absence of all the necessary transition steps or 'safety nets' or regulation that are required to make such policies even remotely workable.
That they are asking on Twitter or the policy?
Theyre not looking to change the uni entries are they? Just people who come over and do 'nothing' courses at bleow degree level
There's goes whatever chance I had of studying abroad in the UK.....
Never disingenuous. Oh no. Not at all. Wouldn't dream of it.
regarding policies and decisions. They love "service user involvement" tick box exercises in places like the NHS, "what kind of treatments do you think should be made available?" It's why we have shit like homeopathy being offered.
Such an empty offer as well, do you think they really care what a load of racist mongs think about immigration?
It's total bollocks.
Choice over hospitals? I couldn't give a flying fuck. Just fix me in a resonable manner and I'll be on my way.
increase the university fees for overseas students even more than the english ones....hey presto a reduction in overseas students ......with the added bonus that the loss of the volume of fees, is offset to a degree by the few that still do come will be paying more.
If this is considered too discriminatory then they could skip pass the accusations of discrimination by a) hiking up the fees even beyond 9K (to say 15K) then fund the 6k difference back to the english students (like the welsh students will get)
THEY wont actually lose out on 6K per english student as the fees arnt really that high, this will just be a political device......so then we will end up with
Welsh student has to pay 15K but the welsh gov will pay 6K of that (and another 6K of the fees is only book so can be moved around so 6K of the 15K charged can then go back to the welsh gov who can then pay the other 6k....i.e. 12 K paid leaving the welsh student with 3K to pay)
English student has to pay fees of 15K but because 6K of this is only a device it can then be used as 6K that the UK gov pays of english students fees leaving the english students with the 9K that the gov is currently proposing.
Overseas students will pay 15K fees......if their own govs choose to donate some of that then that is up to their gov.
PS This is merely a sarcastic suggestion, which I guess might actually be taken up.
When parody becomes reality...
....i mean yeah its not a popular or great thing to do, but its not any worse that stuffing your own students particularly.....they can actually point this out if there are any protests......point out that they are not biased, that they are happy to screw their own students.
so ok make the fees 25K?
(If overseas students already pay loads more, then whjy on earth does the gov want to reduce their numbers? that doesnt seem very pragmatic)
I really do not know. I think it's just a really badly worded and thought-out thing that they've stuck up on the internet. Maybe we're just being trolled or something.
I hate overseas students.
