A Woman Under The Influence is possibly his best film and maybe the best starting point
The Killing Of A Chinese Bookie (the 1978 version at least - i heard the 1976 version is different in this respect (and generally the 1978 version is the one everyone's seen)) is a bit unrepresentative as you only see the film from one character's perspective, with regards to the editing. I guess there's articles on the internet about this you can read if you can be bothered.
i still haven't seen enough Cassavetes films really
I've only seen A Woman Under The Influence, Faces and some early Jazzy one. 'A Woman...' is a masterpiece.
but i'd start with shadows or faces just to give you a sense of development/what he's doing and 'cause those are good too.
