McCartney for me. The best songwriter and didn't go all political.
Great tunes...always preferred his voice to Lennon's...and, when he stopped playing up to the whole 'cute one' thing, was actually cool as fuck.
I always thought he looked cool. Cooler than Lennon.
it's obviously george
What a fucking dreamboat.
I was waiting for that to pop up. :-D
Scout <3's George was basically the first thing that came to mind when I saw the thread title.
TOO MUCH INTERNETZ.
is an absolute cunt of epic proportions
Both are also great songwriters who are capable of recording and releasing the most unbelievable crap on Earth - Lennon appeared to genuinely have no quality control filter for his solo stuff.
George wrote some of my favourite Beatles song. Ringo was my favourite as a person until the whole fan mail thing but I think McCarney probably edges it over all - he has written some absolutely astonishingly good songs. Even if the Meat Free Monday thing is the single most condescending idea in the history of the planet.
No less than Paul "The Frog Chorus" McCartney. I agree with you overall but they both give equal portions of utter tripe.
I think it's because McCartney tried a lot of things that didn't come off and ended up looking a bit silly but at least he was trying things whereas Lennon seemed to believe that everything he said, thought or did was in itself utterly fascinating so his tripe tended to be more pedestrian, arrogant and self-involved. I really hate the Lennon/Plastic Ono Band album more than words can say,
when discussing McCartney. For every mention of Frog Chorus, Silly Love Songs etc there should be a corresponding mention of Lennon's Sometime in New York City album, probably the most baffling example of a talented artist completely losing their grip.
songs - Lennon, wrote most of my favourites, followed by Harrison
voice - Lennon, the best rock n' roll voice still
the one to have a pint with - Harrison. He seemed like a nice, funny guy without the pretentions and egomania of certain of his colleagues.
is because he only wrote about 3 decent songs during their peak. He did look nice though
I liked it when i was a kid.
I feel more that it was the media and others who irritate me. I never feel like Lennon really had that belief you talk about, rather I think he just did stuff and was amazed that everyone took it all so to heart and so seriously. I would hazard that in his time this sort of fame, particularly for someone from his background, was utterly peculiar. I don't know that it's fair to judge him by our own jaded and 'experienced' ways.
Instantly out of the running.
although, he did apparently write Helter Skelter. then again, he is also a massive twat. Lennon is alright, but again a bit of a douchebag. good guitar work of Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band. Ringo's a lovable idiot, I guess.
therefore, Harrison is the best.
Glad that's settled.
a very large amount, then
anyone who says anything other than George is a mentaller.
he was Thomas the Tank Engine AND he drummed for Liam Lynch.
It must be indie message board.
Best voice, best songs, best weird period, best death. John by a mile.
He was the only Beatle who dared go on a bender with Harry Nilsson. Therefore - he wins.
Watching the Beatles Anthology it's clear Paul was and is a bit of a twunt and the rest of them all agree. He's not even cool with it. Doesn't seem very clever or insightful, always saying things that are transparently calculated to make him look good. No sense of humour and a massive propensity to exagerrate.
Ringo on the other hand comes across as a decent bloke, willing to take the piss out of himself, seems to have a balanced disposition and makes a fair account of things.
Musically however, I'd say Paul, best singing voice, amazing songs. Some of the worst songs are his too though. John was better in some ways.
I've probably said enough about this now, and its approaching midday, so I'll probably go and do some work now. Bye fans!
he would have annoyed you more than mccartney did.
maybe mccartney should have been dead too
for a second then i didnt clock the subject line and thought george didnt even make it into the top 7
he's most of the most innovative drummers of all time.
I hate Ringo because he's Ringo.
that pretty much makes him my favourite
but John 'I R massive twunt' Lennon's quip that Ringo wasn't even the best drummer in the Beatles kinda stuck?
Can just get to fuck.
My favourite was the guy last year who claimed never to have heard a single song by the Beatles. Impossible to top that bullshitting, but here’s a tabulated list of this thread in descending order:
George Harrison 16
Paul McCartney 4
Charles Manson 2
Pete Best 1
John Lennon 1
Have a look at that horrible list and realise two things:
1. job done for indieness
2. you should all be ashamed
It's not all 'indie' types either. Look:
Ringo Voters - people who are quirky and have no reason to vote for him other that "he's so cool because he was rubbish and had a big nose lol".
George Voters - people who are desperately sensitive and thoughtful indie types who are trying to steer clear of Lennon and McCartney populism.
Paul Voters - people who think "Liam Gallagher named his kid after John Lennon so I'm not voting for him out of principle because Oasis are awful. I'm going to listen to Deerhunter now..."
John Voters - people who are sensible and right.
And I always liked you, Geoff.
My needlessly angry broadswipes at groups of people who I don't actually know is one of my most charming traits. You KNOW it.
Me > Ringo
i know that much.
But I'm well-versed in Rubber Soul, The White Album, Abbey Road and Revolver all the same. I've never listened to Sgt. Pepper though - this is absolute truth.
