I'm coming to the end of the first Rebus novel by Ian Rankin and although it's reasonably enjoyable the writing is acceptable at best and often clumsy. Does Rankin get better?
Have read a couple of Elmore Leonard who impressed me but it would be nice to read something British.
Don't bother suggesting Raymond Chandler and James M Cain or early Le Carre - I've read 'em. Thanks for the thought though.
