A thread about FIREWORKS

stanstubbs [Edit] [Delete] 16 replies 17:16, 5 November '10

Seriously, where's all the FIREWORKS threads??

There's FIREWORKS going on someone round the west end (LONDONCENTRIC) at the moment, amazing. What are they?

I'm going to Southwark tonight, Battersea tomorrow & Victoria Park on Sunday.

Where are you seeing FIREWORKS??

FIREWORKS!

  • in my youth

we once tried to use a bit of scaffolding pole as a rocket launcher for a firework. Didnt work.

  • I'm going to that massive firework / bonfire thing at Lewes.

It's meant to be the best firework night in the country, or something along those lines, but I went last year and it was more like a KKK march. Theres something about men wearing white hoods and burning crosses whilst walking through a old fashioned english village that is quite unnerving.

  • Once you've spent May Week in Cambridge, you've pretty seen all the fireworks you'll ever need to see.

At my college ball they used to spend something stupid like £50,000 on twenty-minute displays, done by the company who did fireworks for the handover of Hong Kong to the Japanese. They were great.

Everything else is a bit meh.

  • You're going to three displays?

I admire your commitment to explosions. I'm just going to Victoria Park on Sunday.

  • I hate fireworks

  • Couldn't be arsed to go to the ones near me this year as it'd been raining for hours

and the ground would be sodden. Driving past the site the following day proved I was right- the entrance to the site was a big muddy mess.
Just watched them from my bedroom window instead.

Having fireworks at home seems a bit lame- you could see people lighting some of the cheap ones in their back gardens, and they were rubbish! Also- people lighting fireworks at midnight- bit inconsiderate towards neighbours?

  • I'm not sure where the hatred of this time of year and fireworks has come from, seems to be more of it about this year.

From the point of view of pet owners, it's perfectly understandable, but I don' really get it otherwise.

    • Its horrible for pets

One of my cats was so frightened, he tried to get up the fake chimney we have.

  • I just rembered that a firework flew into my cab on Saturday.

    Scary stuff.

  • I went to a display in a tiny Buckinghamshire village on Friday night

It was pretty fun, pretty much the Indietracks of fireworks displays to the Reading Festival that was last year at Ally Pally.

Funniest part was a group of teenage boys that stood behind the girlfriend and I, they spent the whole time talking in street slang several years out of date (as all teenage boys in posh Home Counties villages probably do) and trying to out-disinterest each other when it came to the display. It was like being stuck in The Inbetweeners or something.

  • As mentioned in the Monday thread...

I saw the worst fireworks display ever at the weekend. Lame fireworks set off one at a time. woooosh >>>>> phut.

Conversely in September at my Dad's wedding I saw the best display ever. Some of the rockets were so big it was like the death star exploding.
