Man I hope he's going to be ok. Big fan of Baker... big fan.
as I was told about this through a mutual friend well over a year ago yet on the story I read he says he's sorry to have kept quiet over the past few weeks. Weeks? Unless it's suddenly gotten much worse. Poor man :(
It seems to me that they've announced it to explain why he's a) been off ill a lot recently and b) why he's going to be off air for a while soon.
Announcement timing aside - it's rotten news and fingers crossed that one of the best broadcasters this country has ever had makes a full, and quick, recovery.
Hope he gets better. I think he's genuinely the best radio broadcaster we've had in the past 10-15 years.
I'm really really gutted about that. Morning Edition circa 91-92. Best morning daytime show ever in the UK and no bugger remembers it.
Fourth line of Top Cat, The Singing Ringing Tree, 'kegger!' and all that. It was my gateway to his peculiar, singular genius whose lines I regularly steal and claim as my own. Seriously, if you've never heard the Baker & Kelly bow tie call: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Hhk8VVS2AU
I'd entirely forgotten about the lengthy discussion of the lyrics to the Top Cat theme tune.
We've probably watched it about 50 times. Good memories.
Anyway - Own Goals and Gaffs was good, Fantasy World of Freak Football however is the football video by which all other football videos must be judged.
Get well soon DB.
Love him, but never manage to actually listen to him. If I were modern I'd see if he does a 'podcast' or something like that, but I'm not, so I won't.
If this sounds flippant, so be it. It's what he would have wanted.
didn't care much for him in his big breakfast days, but really enjoy the 10-15 of radio i hear of his.
in any case, get well soon Danny.
him congratulating Dion Dublin for being the footballer with the steamiest head.
The plywood bowtie call made my year.
Will be on iplayer for latecomers.
But this is sad news :(
I think the intention is that he comes back to it.
It's good radio, in that it's all completely irreverent, light-hearted nonsense, and what else do you need on a Saturday morning when you're hungover?
with steve bunce on it
Or is that just an internet myth?
