Hi Shucks / Theo.
Sigourney Weaver screen test:
Original concept art for Alien 3 Wooden world:
I've actually listened to the whole commentary on the extended take plus watched the whole of the documentary on Disc 6 of my Alien Quadrilogy US boxset.
I ought to rectify that really and get the third. The 4th can do one though.
The third is just too sort of ponderous for my liking. The long cut is interesting but doesn't really do anything to rectify that fact that it's a shallow retread of the first film.
The fourth has some shit stuff but at least it's as genuinely individual from the second film as the second was from the first.
I presume you've all seen this?
that was great.
have you ever noticed that there is quite a lot of Aids symbolism in Alien 3?
"Ward, then 35, wanted Ripley to land on a wooden spaceship inhabited only by monks. They would view her appearance as a test by their god. The sudden arrival of the Alien would be the equivalent of their devil."
Have we missed out on the new Jodorowsky? That sounds brilliant.
Anyone else spot that?
Love the early glimpses of Fincher, like the water in the autopsy sink/cut to Charles Dance/cut to water and blood in the autopsy sink. Still don't understand where that egg came from at the start, though. Or the other facehugger. Or why Paul McGann's accent goes from scouse to yank to scouse. Otherwise, slick film.
something that really bothers me:
the director's cut of Aliens is way, way inferior to the theatrical cut. every extra scene just looks daft.
also, where does the Alien that ambushes Burke come from?
when ripley newt and hicks escape, that's it.
the prison, bald head, dying, dog, depression bullshit? nah. doesn't happen.
