They served fried chicken 'to celebrate' Black History Month.
Today it's jerk chicken. That isn't so bad
It's a Black dish a day.
Fried chicken was yesterday's.
No one even raised an eyebrow which was strange.
I'ts different from jolof rice or jerk chicken because those dishes were created in predominately black countries.
Fried chicken is not a product of an african/black 'country' but is stereotypicaly applied to African Americans/poor Americans like ebonics/gangbangin/gun crime
but I thought, and may be way off here, that the southern fried chicken thing originated from blacks in the south and still goes as part of the southern culture?
because poor people could at least keep chickens if they could not afford otehr kidns of meat.
But poor/=black nowadays
wasn't curry invented when the poor from india needed something to mask rotten meat because they couldn't afford well meat?
curry was imported by turkic/persian conquerers.
They were Persian style stews that used local Indian spices.
You're talking about the use of curry powder in WWII
good knowledge is good
the poor south did = black what with slavery and all that, given this is black history month maybe not great but you have to give your canteen kudos for accuracy as well as tasty fried chicken
if Leiths had someone that thought like that
But who cares really, the stuff is delicious and it doesn't seem to have put you off eating it
Now if it was served by someone blacked up Al Jolson style that had just finished a hard days cotton picking and inbetween servings was eating lots of watermelon then it would be a problem.
and I got chips instead of mashed potatoes.
I always wanted to try fried chicken and mached potatoes but you only get fries with junior spesh round these parts
watermelon is delicious
to wash it down
grape soda, kool aid or hennessey*
as in southern fried chicken?
its soul food innit. comes from afro-american cooking in the American south. makes sense to me.
And cooked on a burning crucifix
how dare they insult black people by claiming they enjoy chicken.
In my humble experience of the world, a huge proportion of black people really like fried chicken. You should see the crowds at KFC in Trinidad and Tobago.
Also see Chris Rock's skit on Dad getting the biggest piece of chicken.
