the re-release has been banned in Ireland
well done ireland, better publicity than the film could have ever hoped for/probably deserved
we used to be bad for that back in the 70s, but i thought everything goes now.
It was stupid because it was only banned by the BBFC because they feared it might break blasphemy laws and cause anger.
but I thought I couldn't be bothered trying to justify iy to people who'd see it on my shelf on and say "OMG, why u got a RAPEFILM?", or even if it was worth justifying in the first place.
its toss. really rather dull and pointless. though, i suppose, thats what you should expect from a rape vengeance film. I dont know why it is banned though...? nothing so terrible in it as many another film, and you cant ban films for being tedious yet.
even ever actually finish?
IE Last House on the Left, I Spit on Your Grave, Cannibal Holocaust etc etc. The Sam Raimi trilogy are the only films that get lumped in with the 'video nasty' era that are worth a go. Once.
not saying they are 'good' or anything, but they are definitely worth a look if you are interested in this sort of thing (i.e. horror movies, banned movies, gore movies, whatever). some are plain shit, it has to be said, but I think Last House on the Left and Cannibal Holocaust actually some merits - the hardest bit thing in CH to take is actually the animal cruelty.
plus Blood Feast was a video nasty, and it is just about the funniest film ever. NIght of the Living Apes is hilarious as well Cannibal Apocalypse is good. The Beyond is pretty good, Axe/Lisa Lisa is really weird and well worth a look. (you get the feeling that Tarantino totally ripped this off). Driller Killer is great, etc. definitely don't blanket ignore the video nasties - like I say there is a lot of shit, but some well worth watching if you like horror films or weird peices of exploitation crap.
an interesting segment of cinema history and, for better or worse, raise interesting points and can lead to interesting discussions....
might not be great cinema, but doesn't mean that they're not worth watching
i think it's a huge shame that what's generally regarded as 'great cinema' is all based around a very narrow viewpoint and it's not really challenged at all.
not that I Spit On Your Grave is a 'good' film in any sense.
some are undeniably shit - some are good. Tenebrae is apparently in there, probably one of the highest 'quality' of the bunch, one of Argento's finest movies. then again I actually think Cannibal Holocaust is actually good as a horror movie - though like I say, wis has quite disturbing animal cruelty
oh and I just noticed Flesh For Frankenstein (Andy Warhol's Frankenstien) is on their! really great film, one of the best horror comedies of all time. Unhinged is a weird little movie, a combination of the bizarre downfall of a rich, upper class family and slasher type thing. Killer Nun is a pretty good giallo, actually, despite the silly title. definitely some odd movies in there that are 'good' in various senses, or at least interesting.
I need to proofread my posts better in the future
but the animal cruelty completely undermines it. so stupid.
i really like Night Train Murders/Late Night Trains/whatever it's called. it's a Last House clone that's a lot better than Last House. Great Morricone soundtrack too. Bay of Blood was on the list too I think - it's finally been passed uncut by the BBFC just this month.
I haven't seen quite a few on the list still.
also I had no idea Bay of Blood was on there, didn't realise it was also known as Twitch of the Death Nerve. its historically important I suppose (at least in terms of the genesis of the slasher), but I found it kinda irritating. it's pretty good the way it fucks with the giallo genre (which he basically invented of course), but I don't think it's as good as his best movies.
but i dont see the point in banning films they just make people want to watch them more, and its hardly gonna be hard to get hold of, even in a country where its banned . i remeber downloading grotesque just because it got bnanned over here, so its clearly poinltess banning it.
oh wait http://www.megavideo.com/?v=A5JMZ4F7
i rly, rly, didnt think we still banned things. is there somewhere i can complain mbp? ive got nothing else to do today, might as well pester the outdated old beaurocrats
