A bar with half-decent food, ideally. Thankssss!
El Vergel on Southwark Bridge Road is amazing, but it's mostly good for daytime food rather than an evening venue.
The Libertine on Great Suffolk Street has good pizza
The Royal Oak on Tabard Street is an awesome boozer with food, as long as you get there when it's open.
The Pide one by Southwark bridge was good. There's also one on Borough High Street which is probably the same.
...in an area which isn't notable for them. You could do a lot worse.
award winning gastropub place, gets busy and you can't book
Is alright. Decent cocktails and quite tasty South American food.
Anchor & Hope is awesome but not having the ability to book is a pain.
Baltic is OK too - again, delicous cocktails and an amazing vodka selection. Food can be hit and miss, though when it is a hit it is really bloody good.
Thanks guys. Each and every one of you is a star.
I'm going on a pub crawl tomorrow, so if anyone has any other suggestions, speak now or forever hold your peace. The Libertine, The Royal Oak and The Anchor and Hope have all been added to the itinerary.
you should check out The Glad too. It's just around the corner.
Although this is similar in tone to the Royal Oak (i.e. an awesome but old man pub).
If so, right at the end of Southwark Street is Katzenjammers Beer Cellar, much recommended. Huge steins of proper German lager served on massive wooden slab-like tables. Southwark Taverns is pretty good, fun if you get a basement booth. The Britannia is lovely too, I've deemed it my favourite local, probably a bit far in to London Bridge from your route though:
I'll check out the other two though. Cheers.
unless there's a boozer you think simply *must* be visited. Thanks once again for all your help.
