SEE MY VEST SEE MY VEST MADE FROM REAL GORILLA CHEST
(which i haven't seen since i watched it in the cinema at the time, but JAMES WOODS PLAYS HADES SO WATCH IT)
streaming on netflix called "the last mistress." it is somewhat existential-y, and very sad. enjoy.
but that's barely in cinemas anymore. Triplets of Belleville will do, it'll surprise you with its bleakness
Jarmusch is a hero
I ended up catching it at the Groening ATP earlier in the year and loved it, and I don't usually like films. Well, good films.
Johnny Depp is great in it and it has William Blake poetry AND an original Neil Young soundtrack in it. Doesn't get much better than that.
it has Tom Waits in it
I've ended up just watching episodes of Mad Men.
I think this was the clip I was looking for:
Ended up nearly crying, not really sure why.
I've been following it on the BBC2 run and it's kept me engrossed so far. That reminds me, I'd better iplayer the eps i missed on sunday... think i'll do that now.
maybe Still Walking, Happy Together, Yi-Yi or Tropical Malady all fit the bill for modern, arthouse sad, existential ones and are all very good.
altho The Mirror's my fave. and i'm quite partial to Ivan's childhood as well. can't go wrong really.
or if you can get hold of this movie:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadows_of_Forgotten_Ancestors watch it 'cause it's cool and I think Tarkovsky said Parajanov was the best film-maker ever or something...
the jim henson fairy tales "hey cinderella" and "the muppet frog prince." both are on youtube.
Grosse Pointe Blank has started on BBC1 now. Great movie.
