If he'd said "China has no animal protection laws", no one would have taken notice. He's only saying it to draw attention to a valid issue.
where how he says it will overshadow any point he may have had. slow clap, mozza, slow clap.
i guess the thing with THE MOZ is that, despite the pedestal his fans will hold him on, his opinions aren't really that different to most people his age*.
*GROSS GENERALISATION ALERT
then it will have served its purpose, from his point of view.
He's stating that he feels the way the Chinese treats animals is not up to the standard one should expect as a moral human being. I don't know why he decided to pick on the Chinese this time. He's picked on Canada before. Perhaps he felt it would be ironic to demonstrate how apparent acts of racism are condemned, yet speciesm is apparently acceptable.
Or, he's racist.
So I would suggest not loling at it, if you are going to critisize morrissey for being racist.
But if his aim was to get publicity, then being racist is a good way to do it. I don't know what his motivations were, so will stop trying to talk for him.
I mean good as in effective. Which it has been.
But hey, at least we got some excellent puns out of it.
that story leads on Morrissey being a racist, not on the conditions of animal welfare in China as highlighted by Morrissey The Racist.
Both sold loads of books as well.
Both had loads of stuff in the papers when they died.
to be honest.
BUT WHY CAN'T THEY ALL JUST GET ALONG?!
is a cunt.
The Chinese are HUMAN and need to be loved, just like everybody else does.
Pancake on the streets of Birmingham
and heaven knows I'm miserable now
I literally just came back to post this you fucking cunt!
You fucking cunt! YOU are a FUCKING CUNT.
I Want Taiwan That I Can't Have
Zhang Ziyi, Zhang Ziyi, Zhang Ziyi
because I'd have an excellent pun to contribute.
Maybe we can have a side topic of Indian-morrissey puns.
morrisey is a self-righteous bellend. is he vegan does anyone know?
also in that interview did anyone see the bit where he criticised other singers just write the same melodies over and over again. HA
"I thought at the time it was a dangerous thing to say into a tape recorder. He must have known it would make waves, he's not daft," he said. "But he's provocative and theatrical, and it was one of dozens of dramatic pronouncements. I'm not an apologist for that kind of remark, and couldn't ignore it. But clearly, when it comes to animal rights and animal welfare, he's absolutely unshakable in his beliefs. In his view, if you treat an animal badly, you are less than human. I think that was his point."
I still love Morrisey.............and puns to do with Morrissey and China.
Everything I've read leads me to believe that people think this.
If you're gonna be a racist, at least grab a dictionary before hand.
than the fact he's a being a bit of a racist cunt.
Although i don't like Morrissey, this article is ridiculously taken out of context. Stil, he's a massive dick.
Only you'd responded at the point you've posted.
calling the chinese a 'subspecies' really shouldnt be the sort of thing he thinks of as an insult, If he has any internal consistency.
girl 1: the only people i need are morrissey and thom yorke
was shudder material enough.
That's actually quite depressing. Next time you see girl 2 kick her in the cunt for me.
AND HE GETS HIS KNICKERS IN A TWIST ABOUT SOME ANIMNALS?
THE MAN IS A JOKE. I LOOK FORWARD TO CONSUMING HIM AS SOON AS THE STARS ARE RIGHT.
and leave it to your good pal Hastur amirite. amrite.
eat all of our shirts!
She shares more than a nation of birth with Mel Gibson after all...
it was more 'taking over', not 'accepting' other cultures.
and your idea would still be applicable. and your conclusion would still be wrong.
>Raggae IS vile, China's treatment of animals IS awful, the loss of the British identity IS an issue, ther ARE too many foreigners in the UK, and nothing, NOTHING in any song Morrissey has ever put his name to is in the slightest bit good.
Probably, but last I checked no country is really spotless on treatment of animals
No it isn't
No there aren't
Can't answer that as I never listened beyond The Smiths
When I think about it I should have at least given Viva Hate a try
And I'm not talking about a strip club in Manchester.
He's probably right
They deserve to be called such things in that context
"I admire & respect Morrissey." 340 green arrows
with someone who's probably reading this right now (loser).
The way that such a rich country still has such an appalling record on animal and human rights is something that deserves the harshest criticism possible.
If he'd have said something like "backward country", that would have been better. It would've got the same publicity from The Gaydian, but without being such a blanket statement on an entire breed of peeps.
idiot comment. how come people who don't have PRs and stuff know not to say this kind of stuff in everyday conversation yet one of the most famous musicians in the country doesn't realise not to say it to a journo?
But to attack China's animal rights record is fucking bananas. Because we cage up animals for their entire lifetime to breed perfect quality meat and produce, stick them full of antibiotics and let them wallow in their own excrement without being able to escape from it.
Regardless of the subspecies portion, it is 100% the most stupid criticism I've seen levelled at China ever. The man is a fucking goon, no pun intended.
Ok, intensive farming in the UK is very cruel. And although we still unfortunately have zoos, captivity over here is a world away from what they suffer over there. Institutionalised cruelty has been outlawed over here for decades. Over there it's rife.
a) I just don't buy this whole 'us vs them' idea of morality. It's so... colonial.
b) Intensive farming over here and in the States is one of cruelest, most unpleasant aspects of industrialised society. It's one of the biggest lies we tell ourselves every day. I don't believe meat is murder, but in many cases it's pretty much torture.
But given that I don't think anyone I know has ever said they think factory farming is a good thing, why does it still persist to the extent that most farm animals are intensively reared ? Who's actually buy this stuff ?
Is it simply the case that people don't know, and that food labelling is inadequate ? Or is it that if it's slightly inconvenient or a bit more expensive to buy free-range products, then people won't bother ?
but it seems like most people just shove McDonalds in their face and then go home and stroke their precious pets without thinking twice. I get in arguments with these people all the time, just had one in my ethics class. They'll go to great lengths of mental gymnastics to avoid thinking about the animals that they kill, so they can feel good about carrying on with their ignorant, abhorrent lifestyle of instant self gratification and no thinking whatsoever. Feeling contented, satisfied and docile seems to be more important to most people (in the US at least) than actually understanding something about the world and trying to be a positive force in it. I might seem a little bitter about this, cue the trolling.
I got into a massive argument with one of my best friends after pointing out her hypocrisy of condemning that lady who threw the cat in the bin, whilst happily putting no thought into the source of her food.
What are you studying ? I'll be starting a Practical Ethics masters in October.
So I can study something interesting while getting my degree in Information Sciences so I can make decent pay working in a quiet library.
Though I somehow don't think morrissey was using it in the scientific context...
Just thought I'd mention it, in case you saw it being used somewhere in a genuine scientific context and for some reason thought all biologists must be racist. Not that you'd be that silly, of course :)
Oh, yeah, because kik came in and trolled everyone.
Moving on then.Concerning the whole "Mozzer is a china hater" situation, I find it utterly ridiculous that people are still surprised. NME first called bullshit on him in 1992 after the "Union Jack" incident. The guy is basically the most horribly played out closet racist ever seen.
I agree Moz's views don't come as a big surprise. If it wasn't for this celebrity gossip clusterfuck we could've come up with a China related pun for every Morrissey song ever!
