I will only be there on monday-thursday evenings though.
I don't know though, I've never been anywhere near Manchester.
This is just going from what a friend of mine used to tell me when she lived there.
Unless creakyknees is an 18 year old student whose favourite thing to do is dance to the glee version of don't stop believing, then 42s is NOT A GOOD PLACE.
She worked in there, but got fired because one of the other staff sold her reduced price drinks on one of her nights off.
I hear some place called 5th ave is the coolest indie spot anyway.
(^ NOT THIS)
Just thought I'd share
but i normally ignore it cos i am not there......cant people just humour me and tell me whats on thats good next week and coming up?
What sort of things do you like doing? Where will you be staying? Also, you should bump this for the dayshift tomorrow :)
I love dancing and would like to strut my cybergoth stuff (which I havnt done yet)
I can help with specifically northern quarter or Salford stuff as I've lived in both.
Nobody's mentioned the roadhouse- a northern quarter institution. It does gigs and clubnights (including an amazing monday night called Revolver) http://www.theroadhouselive.co.uk/
If you're interested in meeting some nice people (also some DiSers, possibly) then this is a good book club- http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=132115040139191&ref=ts
Common is a good bar and does tasty, reasonable food- http://www.aplacecalledcommon.co.uk/
Round the corner from there is a great little tiki bar called keko moku. I practically lived there for 20 months :D Get a flaming zombie!
giving freindly helpful advice :)
Saki, Altrincham FC, Deaf Institute, Fuel, Night and Day, Underachievers, Withington, Chorlton, Silver Apples, Fab Cafe, Northern Quarter, Kashmiri Spice, Dough, Sounds From The Other City, Islington Mill, Bits of Salford.
well very average. I make better pizzas than there.
and little heart chocolates and i had a LOVELY pizza. it was delicious. and i know my pizzas.
every day for breakfast dinner and tea.
also of course this:
and if you are interested in art & design this may interest you:
The Deaf Institute has a nice bar and puts on loads of gigs
he goes to EVERY gig in town (not even lying). He's also a lovely chap to boot.
Where you working Creaky?
Yay, Creaky's coming to town.
that's one shifty dude
I came to 'this' this to let him know his card was marked, and I find I'm beaten to it.
You're one shifty dude alright.
I only found out today
I don;t know that area, but transport links into the city, and also to lovely Chorlton, are good.
but I'm off to the Isle of Wight for Bestival early next week, and returning in time for Henry's Trouble books gig at Salford Trinity church on the 14th
How long will you be in Mancs?
you should also come Aaron
but its the day after EOTR. Some of oldies don't have the energy anymore.
I'm finding it hard to even find the energy to make a coffee - with hindsight doing Green Man & Leeds was pushing it a bit
It would be good to see you.
I've been looking forward to this gig for 18 months or more
I am working on Thursday afternoon though - planning the incorporation of a web design business
it's currently the trading arm of a charity, and if we don't turn it into a company we will breach the Charities Act, and may also have to pay tax on any profits
and would also love to meet you all
Good stuff.....I was a bit unhappy that my sojourns on the moors were coming to an end, but one has to take advantage of everyplaces strengths, and now I will be going to stay in the home of more of my fave bands than any other city. :) :) :)
wiki it. It has ghosts and plane crashes
when people here mention Salford, they mean places that are really close to Manchester city centre. There's nowhere worth going that's further than that.
Last.fm tells me that The Vaselines are playing on the 23rd, if you like that sort of thing. As mentioned previously, The Deaf Institute is a really great venue, although there's probably loads of other good ones too. I never really do much when I'm here. I should probably leave the thread.
Still not met many Manchester disers actually (that I don't know from elsewhere). They're probably all dicks. Is anyone going to that Women / Zola Jesus gig?
And we are DEFINITELY dicks.
Good stuff. I know a few other maybes too, so I might just trot along and see who I bump into. Still not convinced that 'stairs actually exists after living in the same town for so long.
as he was buying the tickets.
Yep, we'll be there, I can't wait! Maybe see you there...
(most likely, yes.)
and I'm a massive dick.
It sounds like I should get along well with the Manchester contingent.
There's an alright bunch of people knocking about, just say hello to people.
To be honest, parts of Whythenshawe are amongst the worst places I have seen in my life, poverty, scumbags, crime. Some parts of it though (bits that are technically called Whythenshawe) are quite nice. Are you living there, or just working?
outside brotherton house
then its pretty much all offices and little factories, its not so bad in that area. I would get a flat or something in Sale or Chorlton.
dunno why. Just always feels "right" when I go there. Maybe I should move.
Would probably end up hating it.
(other than maybe Glasgow)
