aside from bringing the most noble sport in the world into disrepute, I feel like I've wasted a day watching a sham of a match.
It's a total and utter disgrace.
that people didn't know spread-betting and subcontinental cricket weren't already hand-in-hand
I still reckon they were playing to win. This is a disgrace, sure, but I don't think it means they threw the game.
doesn't mean they will again. Yours is a fairly prejudiced view.
but from what I've heard, spot-betting is RIFE, corruption is universal, and this sort of behaviour is pretty much part of the game in Pakistan. Sad but true. It isn't prejudice, it's a fair reflection of reality. It also permits a sympathetic view of the younger players, eg Amir, who behave in this manner - if it's a culturally-ingrained and at best tacitly-accepted practice, then it's very hard for an impressionable young player NOT to follow in his seniors' footsteps.
This shit happens. Surprised it's happened in such a high-profile series but the surprise is quickly tempered with a shrug.
Obviously, spot-betting fix culture should be banished, and if these allegations are proven I expect severe punishment.
doing it for Amir 150k, Asif they'd do that. i really enjoyed the game yesterday, Butt this has really ruined it for me. Akmal.
Makes a mockery of seemingly 2 of the best days of test cricket I can remember :(
...but although shocking, it doesn't come as a huge surprise. Pakistan are the most unprofessional team by a long chalk, embarrassingly so, really, as has been proved here.
Amir's 4 for nowt in 8 balls is going to be forgotten.
about a quarter of the entire country's just been flooded, get some perspective on it.
Given that Asif and Amir are both very young and Amir still bowled astonishingly well yesterday, you'd hope that this might not detract so much from the game.
That said, it's an absolute embarrassment to test cricket.
Given the fact that the country's still being flooded and hardly anybody's not aware of it.
How terribly original!
even if you don't like the game it's been full of unfortunate events like this.
was horseshit then, yes? and two of the most exciting seam bowlers in the world are going to get banned and pakistan will lose yet another captain.
I can understand why they want money. Stll very silly though.
Pakistan deserved to be banned from cricket for a few years. However this won't happen. This will seriously damage Pakistan cricket for decades.
I'm not sure the ICC can afford to lose another Test nation when half of them aren't competitive or are basketcases or more interested in Twenty20 lately. There'd be only England, Australia, India and Sri Lanka left at this rate.
i'm not recommending they do it for the reasons you've stated. But in terms of cricket rather than financial and poltical reasons.
pretty big asset for the ICC
My brother worked for ages in Pakistan. He says that bribery in particular is such a totally commonplace accepted part of the culture that they are baffled about why people have an issue with it. You just have to slip someone some cash or they won't do their job.
Where this fits in with match-fixing, I don't really know, and I'm not sure I even have a point really. But it makes me wonder, if you grow up in a culture where what we might consider corruption is consider normal practice.
Oh fuck it, abandon reply, everyone pile in and tell me I'm a massive racist, don't know where I'm going with this.
they will know honour and sportsmanship in sport......you can't say they didn't know what they were doing was wrong....otherwise they would have done it long before.
its definitely widespread, but i wouldn't say its accepted.
i think it has been seen as a bit of cancer on the country's development.
but to be fair my brother lived in and around Islamabad for 3 years and was massively involved in the earthquake relief effort a few years ago (he said the attitude of some of the Pakistanis notionally involved in the relief effort ie the syphoning off and selling on of food and supplies etc was appalling). I've yet to hear any opinions on the matter from someone I trust as much who was there for as long, so I'm prepared to take his word.
An expert, on DiS? Fuck off.
that you're a fucking idiot.
hopefully this incident will make everyone give up on the sport and it can stop invading my life and sky sports news.
Barely heard mention of it all morning. Mild applause when Amir came out.
Why was there only one slip in when they were nine down?
I don't often have cause to say this - Well done News of The World. Such a shame about Amir - as talented a bowler as I've seen at his age. Never had much time for Asif, he's been a naughty boy before. As for Butt I couldn't ever understand how a man with a Test match average of 32 was in the team let alone captain. I might have my answer now....
To make matters worse, my wine was corked but I drunk it anyway and I am terribly sick
Over "a certain scoring pattern".
