Well, the long winning streak of the red team continues. God knows you keep making yourself a Blue Arthur...
Weird game, but a very decent one with much better football than we would ever have managed a year back. In some ways, it was really even, and in others - like the scoreline - blatantly not.
Apologies for all my moaning today (likely to be carried on in this thread no doubt). Dan, I have eyes on that trophy of yours; but I was glad that Will gave us the ball when you 'blew up' for that foul!
Felt the pure difference in the game today was that central spine of the team. Ours worked really hard and put great shifts in - and I hope you guys don't mind me saying this - but if you were to look at everyone there today and imagine yourself in a playground 'captains' picking teams scenario, the first four players you'd select on recent form would be Ed, Tom, Dan and James; and they were all on the Reds. The quality and fitness of those 4, plus a really decent stint in goal from Elliot, was the only real difference. Us boys at the back for the Blues put in a lot of graft today and I feel gutted seeing 7 go in past me. Losing Pete at RB hurt us loads, as we had no other subs*, and we lost our shape a bit. We had to pull Rich back, which was a shame as his stint up front was when we were actually playing our best, most simple football.
I don't mean to belittle Jim (pleasure to see you return mate, and it made so much difference when you came on for us) and Mike, as both worked really hard for us today, with Jack & Ben also having really good games. But all in all, we were beaten by a technically better side, some good stops to keep their noses in front and some guys with longer lasting legs. I still think giving that penalty to the Reds was a bit harsh given that Mike had his standing leg taken from under him first half and we let it go, but swings and roundabouts I guess.
Hard to tell who was great for Reds as I was too busy being scared by the 2 men over they had for the entire second half, but Oli caused us problems as did James and Dan. Mark was good back there too.
Overall, a good game. Once the shitty yoofs got off our hallowed astroturf.
* I know we syat his every month, but if people sign up for these things, turn up yeah? 4 subs down, with people not being able to play who might have wanted to. It's hard playing with no subs for 40 minutes liek we did today. </moan>
