Basically, I need a new one. But I don't know what to get.
That's it :D
are you ok?
But I am very impatient and own a fair amount of music, and so I'd like it to be pretty powerful.
Are we anti or pro Mac?
Mac's will cost more than a PC if we're just talking internet use. It's more about your budget:
All of these have some quality laptops. Have look on Amazon. Everything will do the web so maybe search by price.
Things to consider:
- do you care how long the battery lasts?
- Do you care about that more than how fast and powerful it is?
- Do you need any software to come bundled you use a lot (like MS Office - 'Works' doesn't and is shit)
- Do you need it to be lightweight at all?
Higher resolutions are generally better. 1024x600 is pretty much the very MINIMUM resolution.
And I do love it.
Battery is kind of important, but it'll be plugged in most of the time.
Fast and powerful is key.
To be honest, lightweight doesn't matter- I'm pretty strong.
Software I could sort out, obvs it would be a bonus if it did come loaded up.
Well I meant more that those questions should guide you to the right laptop. Looking on Amazon's a good start. Most of those brands will be on there sold new. They might not be the cheapest.
You could try http://www.aria.co.uk or http://www.savastore.co.uk as well as http://www.play.com and of course John Lewis.
Lenovo, Dell and Sony all sell from their own online stores too.
Thanks- I will go to Tescos and get a Toshiba.
one of those colourful dell ones. I don't know what it does but its pretty!
It's toshiba and I got it from tescos.
I did loads of research and stuff then I got really bored with the whole subject and just bought that one when I had a head full of beer and was looking for barbecue stuff.
Does this help?
I got mine on ebay, a reconditioned one from argos, although literally everybody told me not to buy a laptop from ebay it's got a warantee and everything and so far it's been tip top (although I fell on to it when I was getting out of bed this morning and now it won't close properly. grrr.)
Don't get a Dell
Get a Sony
Don't get a Sony
Get an Acer
Don't get an Acer
Why would you spend that much on headphones, just get these shit Sennheiser ones.
I was never allowed to do the finger print thing though :(
Load of rubbish, anyway.
That post was 100% serious and accurate.
I need new speakers, too.
Suggestions would be lovely! Thank you!
Go to a shop.
Choose one you like.
If minted, buy it. If not, go home.
Check it out on teh googlez using the sites in the other 'puter thread on DiS today to find the cheapest.
Double check a review or two to make sure there's not an alternative to the one you like that everyone else is recommending.
Cross check the spec with what you can get from Dell.
Every PC will do office stuff and internet. If you need anything other than a basic machine, you'd know. Only the cheap little netbooks will be realistically below par, but that's cos they're cheap - they'll still cope.
Don't pay for Norton/Symantec/Whatever antivirus. Use Microsoft Security Essentials for free. Failing that, Avast or AVG are alt options.
Similarly, if you specifically need Microsoft Office, you'l know about it, so don't pay for that, either. Try OpenOffice and see how you go. Same goes for a photo programme. Don't pay for Photoshop Elements or something shitter, try Paint.net first.
No Photoshop?! Wha?!
Or at least, it was when I signed up.
but the glossy screens that seem the norm on laptops these days piss me off no end, cant see shit in my large windowed bedroom, relfection of my own mug and the window prevail, so annoying
so yeah, watch out!
