i went to see toy story 3 last night.
tears were choked back, like.
cosmo landesman says that men are crying at this film because toys represent the complete control that men will rarely have again in their life.
peter brandshaw says that the films are actually about being a parent. parents are the toys, and soon enough, the children will grow up and stop playing with them.
however, i think it's OBVIOUSLY all about the oedipus complex sub-text. all his life, andy has lived in a blissful state where the father has been conquered and he can have his mum all to himself, using the same vivid imagination that he works on his toys, to imagine his mother and himself as lovers. however, andy must leave his mother for college, ('i wish i could stay with you forever', says his mum) and leaving the toys represent the breaking of this bond. as well as....y'know...actually leaving his mum.
therefore, we are all sobbing wreks because we all love our mums so fucking much.
anyway. have you seen it? what did you think?
