So versatile. so very very versatile.
you twisted my motherfucking arm.
Peel, core and slice 1 bramley apple
Roll some puff pastry out quite thin
Cut into circles
score a circular line within each circle about 1.5cm from the circumference.
prick the inner circle with a fork.
arrange the apple in the inner circle
sprinkle caster sugar over it.
brush with melted butter
eat with ice cream or whatever.
Nigel Slater told me that via one of his fancy schmancy books.
so... you know...
he's so fucking twee it hurts.
thanks to this thread, I'm now off out to find myself a pie for lunch :)
But I do think shortcrust is better.
Puff has it's place though
I've made the paella a couple of times - delicious.
but I did the Very Full Tart at the weekend - was lovely
and sweet potato cake things other day, bit rich for our liking..disappointing
I think my sister made the sweet potato cakes the other day, the ones you have to fry in loads of butter? Does sound nice but deadly.
Have to select myself something new the weekend after this.
think the fact we had them with left over caramelised garlic tart made it all a bit much
I'm having Yorkshire pudding for dinner though (Y)
Pastry is a joy in itself, yes, but it is ultimately a carrier for other things. Every pastry has its place. You cannot compare the crispy-then-yielding joy of filo in spanakopita or baklava with the crunch and crumble of shortcrust on a flan, or the flaky goodness of puff on a steak pie. STEAK PIE.
Fuck all of the above, it appears you *can* score them and puff wins :)
can become the star of a pie over the filling itself. Try telling me the same can apply to puff.
but makes up for it in texture. Mmm, puffy texture. I love it when it falls into the pie gravy and goes soggy.
That stuff and get out.
the pot can win you.
can > get
But not for breakfast, that would be odd.
it's about a month old..it'll be fine right?
make my life complete
sometimes when i can't be arsed to cook i just cut a square of puff pastry, put a block of cheese in the middle, wrap it up and bake it. pretty awesome
