i miss it so much
he said how he thought the ending was rubbish and that he'd wasted six years of his life. i decided he was a fool who probably didn't understand and i definitely didn't want to be his friend or talk to him anymore.
i accept loads of people were disappointed and unhappy with the ending (the idiots) but it doesnt make the 6 years prior any less enjoyable than you might've already found it.
if the final scene was that youtube video of a frog sucking off the chimp, it still wouldve been an excellent show for 5 series and 90% of another.
lost is BY FAR the best program i've ever watched. it was exciting. and i know it is just a television program but it was so much fun to watch. i loved the characters and the twists and turns in the plot. even if the ending was 'AND IT WAS ALL A DREAM' i still wouldn't have cared.
the journey was fun, there isnt anything left to discuss though.
rather than the unanswered questions
considering it was one of very few (the only?) mainstream television show to set itself an end date and end on the writer's, not the studio's terms.
fair enough if you didnt like those terms but you cant really accuse it for lasting longer than it should've.
But yes, I'm not sure anything else ever locked itself in like that.
BECAUSE not only was it a total headfuck but I think it really showed they meant business.
one of the first reeeeaaal blow-your-mind moments.
as much as it's criticised for everything inbetween, season 3 was bookended unbelievably well. and that can go for all the series really - the writers know how to begin and end a series better than anything i've seen, not one opening/closing scene can you say it was anything less than excellent... apart from maaaaybe the season 2 one, which was still pretty good.
OK, so the Sawyer/Kate/Cage stuff was pretty rubbish and Nikki and Paulo were hahahaha what, but ignoring that you also get:
* a million new Dharma stations and a fair chunk of the Initiative's back story
* lots and lots and lots of The Others
* the start of the time travel elements
* Greatest Hits
* Locke essentially breaking away from the group
* the last five or so episodes, all of which are totally killer
A massive expansion of the scope of the Lost universe + central plots that set up the three seasons that came after = well, ok then.
has made me think of Ally McBeal
I would argue that season 3 is my favourite, and maybe my favourite series of tv ever, though on different days i'd say the same about 1 and 2.
i agree with everything you put there, completely. Plus I didn't think the cage stuff was THAT bad, in that run of episodes we had - Ben being amazing, CAGE SEX, Juliet being introduced, the dramatic surgery/escape stuff, the second island reveal, Jack being Jack, ETC. in that period of episodes the weaker stuff was in the original camp.
i'd say at least half of my top 20 episodes would be in series 3.
Also - Sawyer killing Locke's dad and The Brig in general - absolutely perfect and really underappreciated.
but it would have to only include information up to Season 5 Episode 13, which is where I'm up to. I had to scroll straight to the bottom of this thread because I was terrified of reading a spoiler by accident. Season 4 and 5 have been AMAZING though.
I can actually visualise Dwight Schrute angrily replying to this.
I'm glad I just went with it over the course of the show though, it ended up a very different show to how it started out so I can see why a lot of people were annoyed by it and the ending. I wasn't one of them.
I think the character arcs were handled absolutely perfectly and that was the most important thing for me, I ended up getting really emotional about characters I thought I didn't care about at all which says it all really.
I'm glad it's finished
coincided nicely with Lost finishing so i've blitzed through all 3 seasons since the finale, really softened the blow
Effortlessly one of the most overrated shows of all time - of all time. It's sheer masochism that I've managed to get as far as I have.
