I need some help with people with children please
HI! Guess what? I have an interview to be a nanny. It's on Sunday. It's pretty much my dream job, so apart from being really poor, I need to get it. I'm really really excited, but a bit nervous. I just need to know some things.
There are 3 kids age 4 - 8.
Is basic cooking too old for them?
Are nursery rhymes to young for them?
They'll love this, right http://open.spotify.com/album/7pi09UdEU5EOTCwlMCjEvO ?
Any KILLER tips (not literally killer) for my interview?
THANKS. <3
sorry, the title is meant to say
"help FROM people with children."

1) Being a nanny is your dream job? Really?
2) Children aged 4-8 will take what you give them and like it. Music-wise, if they're anything like me, they'll be receptive to soundtracks from Megadrive games, jazz and tweecore.
yes! i love children.
brilliant. i'm going to show the parents the "here come the 123s/abcs/science" albums by they might be giants, and take some basic cookery books, and craft books, and DVDs, etc.
use this chance to manipulate them into mini scenesters
oh i plan to :D
apart from the obvious caveat that it all depends on the child
i'd say that basic cooking is fine with the 8 year old and messing around with food fine for the 4 year old. nursery rhymes are almost certainly too young even for the 4 year old though. should probably be on to basic stories. songs are still good though, so feel free to explain how you plan to introduce them all to animal collective.
gonna tell them about my dinosaur BISCUIT CUTTERS
PM Bizzy
She used to look after some kids in France, I think.
I don't really have any tips to offer but you should let them know about your creative side, gp.
basic cooking is about right for that age
nursery rhymes - the 8 year old won't be up for that but you could always do other music-y things with them.
but then my daughter's only 15 months so you're best asking slicky (i think)
brill, thanks :D
expect a pay rise
if you can teach them GCSE standard maths within 2 months as well
I used to look after kids as part of a job a while back, and from this i learnt one thing:
BUGHUNT.
DO THIS
If it's on weekends then I might even be able to steal sweep nets and specimen vials and hand lenses and insect identification books and come with you ;D
Apart from I just realised that I will have nearly 1800 crickets in individual containers to look after.
Forget it :(
hmm
I wouldn't recommnmend letting them watch Aliens
Basic cooking is perfect for that age.
Stuff like biscuits that they can get messy with/ treat like playdough.
Songs with actions/ funny words (to them) are amazing
Imagination is definately required.
Do you have first aid skills? I'd big them up in an interview. Talk about how experienced you are (things like having younger siblings, volunteering, etc). Talking about having loads of energy is good too.
An ability to multitask and solve arguments is CRUICIAL. Three children is a CROWD. Three siblings will fight.
Good luck!
I am about 95% certain that Spotify link
is to one of the They Might Be Giants educational albums :D
*EDU-TAINMENT
but yeah :D
"On second thoughts, take the gun."
/Kindergarten Cop.
hmm
basic cooking is definitely good, things like jam tarts and pitta pizzas are easy and can be adapted for the ages, so older ones do hot and cutting, younger ones roll pastry and arrange stuff
nursery rhymes too young yep but songs in general are good...
basically talk to the children about what they like, and like Wishpig said speak directly to them, don't ask questions through the parents and do it on their level..physically I mean
girls of that age generally like crafty stuff, dressing up, arty bits
boys generally it's lego, play mobil, making stuff
woodland trust has loads of spotting sheets for time on garden/out and about
just had a look on the woodland trust site
AMAZING TIP.
My kids
Both my boys fall into that age group, cooking is a definate winner, biscuits, cakes etc, especially if there is some decoration to be done. The older one (7) is more into reading, WII, drawing, lego, football and rugby but partial to a bit of music (sadly of the High School Musical, JLS axis of evil)
With the younger ones glueing, cutting and sticking also a hit.
Always have a joke handy for the interview, ie I love kids, but I couldn't eat a whole one.
JOKES!
yes. jokes are always a winner.
What that spotify link to?
My nephew is two and a fan of Rocket from the Crypt and Dinosaur Jr. so if you want to play some music for them to jump around to, play stuff like that. All the jumping will tire them out too and they'll want a nap.
They Might Be Giants
have three "edu-tainment" albums, called Here Come the 123s/ABCs/Science.
<333
Ohhhh yeah
Kids love that shit
Cooking definitely
Also, craft activities (collages, textured pictures, making things out of milk cartons, etc). Concerts/puppet shows/dance routines, etc. are also good. Plus walks to the park/playground.
^things to do with the kids, rather than things to do in the interview
the 4 yr old will like the cooking the 8yr old might or might not
the 8yr old might relish the chance to have someone new to question
Nursery rhymes are too young for most 8 yr olds
The cooking could be a good idea (as long as you can maintain safety with two of them......dough/pastriey stuff is excellent for them (and cakes naturally)
