I raise you THIS: http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1999416,00.html
^^^Time Magazine, ladies and gentlemen
you get shitty xenophobic immigration stories every day in our tabloids, but there's not been a good "8 year olds distributing free lemonade are the root of all of our economic problems" story.
we're all pinko scum to that dude I fear :(
Shit humour yeah? It was an intentional irony/trolling thing? But didn't quite hit the spot because it was too believeable? It mebbe would've worked if they'd stuck an Onion header on it?
The Onion wouldn't fucking touch that.
Heaven forfend that my irony meter would be all to cock.
Dude hasn't got a goddamn clue. Attempts to appease xenophobia through self-deprecating humour with the most leaden of fists
That is a great reply.
...what's so bad about that?
some kids give away lemonade, normal people say "aww", some wanky journo curmudgeon draws ridiculous parallels with something or other. Diagnosis: Cock
Otherwise, there's a point in there somewhere.
it works coz it does something awesome with the number of bars in the loop-back segue - keeps you wanting more
This makes me happy.
this is so depressing its hilarious, then depressing again, and then just plain absurd
"Unlike previous waves of immigrants, who couldn't fly home or Skype with relatives, Edison's first Indian generation didn't quickly assimilate (and give their kids Western names). But if you look at the current Facebook photos of students at my old high school, J.P. Stevens, which would be very creepy of you, you'll see that, while the population seems at least half Indian, a lot of them look like the Italian Guidos I grew up with in the 1980s: gold chains, gelled hair, unbuttoned shirts. In fact, they are called Guindians. Their assimilation is so wonderfully American that if the Statue of Liberty could shed a tear, she would. Because of the amount of cologne they wear".
"I have always believed Liberal MPs to be homosexual unless furnished with evidence to the contrary"
I'd complain to someone if it wasn't so utterly, utterly pointless
The thinking behind it is that you can't complain, because that would supposedly mean you view being labelled as homosexual as derogotary or some kind of libel. Which is never gonna stand up to scrutiny. But the authour clearly intends it to come across in a derogotary way, based on the target audience. Whether it works as the authour intended or not, I'm not so sure about.
The same thing has happened to 'liberal' in general and 'socialist' (particularly in the US).
But, lordamercy, it's the hollowest of hollow victories. And to get as het up about it as this guy did is lame. To go one further and turn that into some sort of analagous opinion piece about the wider state of the US economy is pure wank-on-a-stick. The icing on the cake is that some shitty editor approved it for publication.
Mr Terry Savage comes out of it having done more damage than good to his apparent 'cause'.
It's a classic self-defeating trick. Party-affiliated and other sympathetic persons pretend to provoke political discussion by being needlessly outrageous. The hardcore of the party respond favourably. A brief period of satisfaction at the supposed success ensues. The opposition digs in. The protagonist believes his own hype and ramps up the outrage. But they end up going too far, and a centre-ist gap opens up and is filled by someone with a more pragmatic view of things. The antagoniser then finds themselves marginalised and mistakenly thinks the best way to regain the initiative is to shriek even louder.
Persons and groups that fall into this category:
Socialist Worker types - witness their increasing marginalisation to the point where they're on a par with high street scientology recruitment mentalists in terms of credibility with the general public.
The GOP / George Bush - Because of (not despite) the rantings of hardliner lunatics like Glenn Beck, Barry pulled it off with aplomb.
Most of the Tory party and lackeys like Dick Littlejohn - and the inability of the Conservatives to command a majority with every possibility that they'll be booted out after one term.
money was introduced as a means of smoothing bartering and ensuring consistancy in markets, to enable measurement of goods or worth (I mean 'real markets')
Modern 'markets' do not smooth and hjelp measuring worth, except from the point of view of agents that can view the localised variances and make a profit over inequalities.
I am trying to explain my position on money and being wary of those who automatically jump in and defend it as a bartering mechanism/measurement
cos the defenders of it always ignore the illogicalities that have crept in over many years of setting up and refining the current mechanisms of money.....these mechanisms becoming entranched as power/money centres can gain further advantage/hold over those with little money/power......these power/money centres and the mechanisms that they 'enjoy' have now become intrinsic to basic ways of living for those with little poweer and money, therefore to break that which enslaves us will also run the risk of killing/mortally wounding/seriously injuring ourselves.
I absolutely hate people like the bloke in this article......although it is inappropriate to do so, (cos he does not embody the problems of the world, he merely reflects some of them) it would be amusing if he were drowned in a vat of lemonade
I'd have started rounding up business and charging a finder's fee
