£127 straight up Kris Marshall's botty.
I want broad bands.
thats how much it is for a new line. to reactivate should be cheaper no?
regardless, bt can do one?
check to see if you actually need bt for your broadband. http://www.samknows.com/old/broadband/checker2.php
You might not if your exchange is LLU'd. I'm pretty sure be unlimited and others are able to provide your phone and broadband without need for bt line rental-ness.
stupidly, one of the pre-requisites for a couple of the companies I tried was having a BT number. Of course, BT want to charge you £127 AND force you to sign up to a 12 month contract.
it's given me this:
BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
BT Wholesale WBC (21CN)
BT Wholesale SDSL
O2 / Be LLU
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
Tiscali TV (via Tiscali LLU)
Orange LLU (Formerly Wanadoo)
Virgin Media (Cable)
I rly don't want a BT line if I don't need one obvs
Had to pay this twice in the past 3 years. Fucking titwanks.
The most recent was due to some stupidly complicated situation with Sky in which I needed a new phone number to get broadband, and also my previous broadband account hadn't been properly cancelled and... it makes me angry just writing about it 5 months later.
i dont even remotely want to think about it.
I have to order phone lines from them and they don't talk amongst the office so I can talk to 20 people in a day about the same thing and no one will sort it! also they say it'll be done by 6pm because they go home at 6pm and don't have to worry!
after they got the date of our office move wrong by one month, then told us it would take 4 days to send a guy around to restart it. Worst company in the world
There was some don't ask don't get deal where if you signed a year contract and agreed to make 10 calls per month (can be free ones included in package), then they'll waiver the charge.
Looks like it's £29 now but even so: -
but you can take it with you if you move. Got until 30th June before the deal expires though.
THE WEEK AFTER THEY FINALLY CONNECTED ME. WHICH TOOK SIX PAINFUL WEEKS.
BT offered me the most irresponsible, lazy and unreliable service I have ever known, not to mention you get very little for your money.
by calling up BT on an hourly basis and shrieking wordlessly down the line. If your voice tires of this, use a vuvuzela.
Repeat until police interference.
I once took 3 days off work waiting for an engineer that never came. They said he tried the doorbell, but couldn't get me. I asked them why he didn't ring, they said their engineers don't carry phones. This was 2005.
I managed to get them to agree some compensation, which was around £200 for lost earnings. Once agreed, they said...
"We'll deduct it from your next bill."
"but I won't have a next bill because you're useless and couldn't set me up, I'm with Virgin now."
"take it or leave it."
Fuck them, fuck PlusNet, fuck HSBC and fuck PlusNet. But especially fuck fuck PlusNet.
fucked up the transfering of my address from branch to branch. They copied my old address across. So they were sending out letters to the wrong address entirely, then blamed me when I asked why they were charging for something I had no knowledge about. Managed to sort it out after a billion phone calls and faxes.
I'd been with Lloyds for the first three years of my banking life, never in overdraft. Paid in my student loans etc. End of first year at uni, and I needed a £250 overdraft for 3 months for accommodation related expenses because I hadn't managed to rack up a few quid in a summer job yet. Nothing doing.
BT are fuckers from start to finish.
