Drives a Hummer? Eats meat? Likes boobs? Has three first names, two of which are hyphenated? Lives in Texas?
I support England and I'll be disappointed whoever they end up losing to but a team full of jocks from a country with such an irritating attitude to football (plus foreign policy) will be suicide time.
I've been an NFL fan since I was born.
And to your other point, EVERYONE THAT PLAYS ANY PROFESSIONAL SPORT IS A JOCK. Moot.
i always thought that people saw 'team usa' as clean-cut disney types?
i can picture them eating cookies and milk together while 'coach' tells a bedtime story.
Real recugnize reeeaal, sont tread on this.
a PROMISE. I live with an american. If we fail to assert our natural supremacy over the colonials....I will beat the shit out of him
If England wins, USA fans will sign every post for a week with "ENG WINS!"
And if the USA wins, then you English must sign your posts for a week with "USA WINS!"
Sign up below:
TBH Porter...I'm not worried. The game starts at 19:30 GMT. I assume you rabble will do your customary thing of showing up late...say 20:30 and claim victory then :P
Then nothing. We will still have larger penises and you'll have to live with that.
So I have the arrogance of the english and the....oh :P
But the intolerable half of you will have to post: USA WINS! haha!!!
I will find it unsufferable if we lose. IN-FUCKING-SUFFERABLE.
The teasing from family and friends....:(
Don't give a shit about it until it's at their door, then they're going on about him big their weaponry is

Like, if USA wins, then the English lads aren't allowed to post until the end of the World Cup, but if England wins, then the USA boys fuck off until the end of the World Cup
draw is void.
OK, but I'd prefer to see your humiliation for a week. Oh, the joy: USA WINS on thousands of posts...!
we live in a country called ENG ER LAND
USA! USA! USA!
Probably the most i've looked forward to a football match since Man Utd - Leeds, and we all know how incredible that was and what a smug twat i became following that. Gonna happen again. JESUS. YES.
Landon Donovan, DaMarcus Beasley, Freddy Adu, Clint Dempsey, Oguchi, Onyewu, Bobby Convey, Eddie Johnson, Steve Cherundolo, John O'Brien, Carlos Bocanegra, Jimmy Conrad, Pat Noonan,
LET ME HEAR YOU SAY
My day is comin', its comin' someday
My day is comin', it might be today
My day is comin', its comin' up, someday
My day is comin', its comin' up, someday
we all know you're not american...bit weird?
his own country is like totes indie.
Triple whatevs, yeah?
whats it like in the states in terms of HYPE? will many people be watching the match tomorrow? does the average american even know who CLINT DEMPSEY is?
they don't care much about it at all. i mean it has been mentioned in the news and whatnot but only because their first match is against england. past that not many people care about it. so my american friend tells me anyway.
Even sports reporters don't know much about soccer/football here. Clint Dempsey? Never heard of him. Wayne Rooney, yes. The occassional funny story about striker fucking other striker's wife, YES.
I will say that since the inception of cable TV, there is a Premiere League channel and it gets the occasional nod from ESPN and stuff like that. It's still a million miles from being as popular as Am football though.
I.e. you could fill a big stadium for a man u vs chelsea game once a year or so, but other than that only weirdos pay any attention to it?
We dont care much at all, as a whole. You may find a few guys that get behind soccer year round, but its not common. Most kids stop playing around the age of 12 and move on to another sport. The media doesnt push MLS at all really, and it cant compete with the US big 4 (Hockey, Football, Basketball, Baseball). The NBA playoffs (finals) are going on right now and thats a bigger deal.
As far as the world cup goes, people will tune in, but there isnt a unified sense of pride and passion about it, it could increase if we move on in the tourney tho. We look at it more like the Olympics, something to get behind every four years, but nothing to fuss over otherwise.
Personally, I love the world cup and will tune in pretty intently. Im also just a huge sports fan in general, so if something important is going on, I will invest my time. I may not have the in-depth knowledge that I have in all the other US sports, but it doesnt mean I dont care.
I know who Dempsey is, but the average American definitely doesnt, they might recognize (due to some advertising exposure) Donovan, Henry and Beckam, but thats about it.
As in, FOOTY manages to get ahead of at least one of the big 4 team sports in popularity/success?
That should become even more solid now the Vancouver Whitecaps, Portland Timbers, Seattle Sounders Cascadia teams will all be together in MLS East, no?
Or am I being fed misinformation about the relative popularity of the sport up in that part of the world?
As much as we're prone to mocking the MLS, the Timbers almost seem like a real team. ;-)
and gives them to the player after the match (as he does for the keeper if he records a shutout), and uses his chainsaw to excite the crowd."
A CHAINSAW! IN A FOOTBALL GROUND! !!!
Here's the companion piece about the Sounders:
Tell your goalie thanks.
Scottish police have spent the weekend mopping up after flash floods after 5 million people suimultaneously pished themselves laughing.
