I can't decide if its going to be good at the Star.
But I won't be there on Friday.
poor Saki :(
slightly terrifying and totally awesome
someone got shot there or something
but i once saw loads of policemen come in and wrestle out a shady looking guy :D
Underachievers is teaming up with Shake It for a one off on Friday cos there is a Parklife aftershow on Saturday when it's the usual Underachievers :)
saki is still very open. underachievers are guesting at shake it shake it this week.
the only reason saki is being investigated is because someone complained about the sound when they did all the drum'n'bass nights there. since then they've got rid of those nights, closed the doors upstairs etc.
though i work with them. i'm dan from pull yourself together. you should come to my nights too.
i know you. you're great.
it was made during an overexcited attempt to cause scandal without knowing any of the facts of the case!
what Dan said! Cheers!
and one person dancing downstairs to "jungle".
last one ever though (y)
don't vom over the twee tho.
I might. I've only ever been to the Star once and it was a crap night, that was down to the company though. I am tempted, kind of.
Are you going?
think there is an aftershow party at saki, so underachievers are playing at shake it.
Let me know nearer the time if you're going or not.
Although I do quite enjoy what people are coming up with...haha.
Kirsty and Dan seem to have covered most above. Saki has an appeal against its license being revoked in mid-September. Kirsty and I are still booking gigs up until Sept 11th for the night now, and all summer dates (2nd and last Sats) will be on as normal from this weekend. The managers have been advised they have a good chance of winning the appeal by their lawyers and are confident. I’m slightly less confident, but that’s all the more reason it needs people to sign petitions and stuff over the summer.
They have taken many steps to reduce noise (why we couldn't open a window during Friday's sweltering gig), got rid of the nights causing problems and taken steps to change the clientele to be more like underachievers the rest of the time.
We do a large share of the booking for Saki these days (albeit in an unofficial way, emailing at work and the like!). Hopefully why you’ve started to notice more leftfield promoters like Bad Uncle, Lamb & Wolf, Pull Yourself Together, all starting to put on gigs there again. That and the fact they are offering free hire to the right people in order to change things.
We just moved on this one because of the Parklife after-party (long story in itself). We’re doing it at the Star with Shake It as a one-off, as it is end of term, and we didn’t want to not do a night this weekend. That and we really like Shake It! as a night to go to ourselves!
If we do have to move in Sept, it will probably be the place you least expected it to be. The night’s always been quirky and quite cult, so has to stay that way I feel. If Saki stays open however, expect it get a lot more alternative and consistent.
Hope this clear’s everything up. And hello everyone! I don’t post here much personally, but Kirsty just linked me! Hope to see some DiSsers down on Friday. For the record, I love the Star as a venue. Not sure it will be our regular home ever, but it’s great for one-offs and we’ve loved DJing there in the past.
wish i could come tonight :(
