yes or no?
Came here to post exactly that. Fucking hell.
but that had enough about it that was intriguing that I think I'll say yes.
at 2 on a Monday morning on a massive comedown at ATP whilst my friend slept next to me and occasionally drifted into conciousness to see another scene of cat torture.
on the back of this:
i like reading anti-korine rants.
Mister Lonely was a lot better than the reviews made out. I'd like to see Trash Humpers in a cinema.
mister lonely - fantastic
julien donkey-boy - utter shit
so my answer is hmmmmmmmmmmm?
I met him and got a picture taken
Julien Donkey Boy-great
Trash Humpers- ummm.....novel watching it at a swish cinema like the ICA
And yes, I'd like someone to rant about him...
how was it? i'll probably never get the chance to see a proper screening of it, do you think it'd work better on a small screen?
i guess after Mister Lonely flopped so badly at the box office he won't get the chance to do another relatively big-budget film anytime soon, which is a real shame.
but also quite fun! It makes Gummo look like Citizen Kane (obviously Gummo's great, but it's not conventional). It's just some old masked folks smashing shit up, shot on some VHS quality video.
I really want to see Mister Lonely now. I think he can still get some money from somewhere. His films aren't exactly Jerry Bruckheimer.
so i'm sure i'll get along with it just fine
i think the main problem with Mister Lonely is that it's very slow paced. there's a plot and everything, but it's not a plot led film and as it's not exactly Gummo i guess it alienated almost everyone. it's beautiful to look at and i really enjoyed the acting - samantha morton is wonderful in it.
it cost $8m so it's hardly a blockbuster but it barely made $200,000 back so i doubt anyone would put any money up for another film unless he makes something as successful as Gummo again. he'll never make a film as 'sensational' as that again as it's just not possible when people know what to expect.
he did so much with the money from a visual standpoint that i'm disappointed it'll probably be the only film he makes like it - he could certainly make another great no-budget film though
no critics like harmony korine is kind of a problem for him
i think it got pretty terrible reviews when it came out
the skydiving bmxers bit was awesome in the cinema
but i also heard it was supposed to be a remake of a fassbinder movie and i don't think that happens in any fassbinder i've heard of
Entitled "What Makes Pistachio Nuts," Korine described the premise as a Trotskyite who lives in a Florida suburb and owns the world's biggest pig - the titular Pistachio. In the script the young special adhesive to his pet swine and people from the community watched as he rode the animal up walls while making pro-Trotksy speeches.
fassbinder was in theatre before he started making movies
theyre releasing another one of his tv series on dvd soon
still need to see it. and most other fassbinder.
what's the thing coming out soon?
mmm i dont think itll be that one its meant to be thats all about stifling bourgeois life its real good tho
world on a wire is the tv series
it's just been reissued on DVD and all
Was very good; a little dated in places (and unsurprisingly some of the themes seem a little hackneyed now), but well worth watching even if just for the care taken with every single shot.
I've got a massive stack of Fassbinder DVDs to work my way through at the moment. Am about halfway through Berlin Alexanderplatz, which so far is simply staggering in how he brings the novel to life.
was a pretty strange experience
is it still a fairly conventional film?
theres sort of three threads running at the same time
one is this story about hitchcock meeting his double and having this conversation with him about who is really hitchcock and stuff
then theres bits about hitchcock lookalikes and what they do
and these two bits are mixed in with stuff about the cold war so theres a lot of footage of kennedy and nixon and kruschev i think
the three threads are kind of mixed together in a pretty weird and ambiguous way and there isnt really any external direction
was quite interesting and pretty bizarre
this review is maybe better
might show here eventually if it's new so i'll keep an eye out. is it completely in English?
the dude who made it also made this
has a pile of mongs crying about him underneath it.
I'm. That. Cool.
Gummo, which I thought was brilliant in a really unsettling sort of way and Mister Lonely, which I'm still not totally sold on, there are some wonderfully surreal moments, but seemed to really lack direction.
the characters themselves lack direction and it's a film about the people rather than a narrative
Am a massive Korine (and Larry Clark) fan. I thought Mr Lonely was absolute gash though.
starring Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, James Franco with cornrows and Gucci Mane. Music by Skrillex.
but I read the comment section of a story about skrillex doing the soundtrack to this on the av club. What a fucking boring bunch of fucks.
he's not doing all the music is he? i'm guessing it's just for all the spring break scenes and suitable incidental music
Gucci Mane's character is called Archie
I think Skrillex is creating samples and synths and stuff like that and music is being composed with those elements by someone else, I'm not really sure.
Not sure this film looks very good to be honest.
Side note: Ashley Benson. Kill me.
harmony korine he hates the working classes
was that cluck cluck song at the start.
