never read the guy...whas the craic...?
give me your love/hate
should i buy 'what the dog saw'?
i just started reading this
it reminds me of those...'this american life' (are they called that?) podcasts, where they riff on a topic and speak to lots of different people to illustrate the point. i like those. is he a bit like those?
Tipping Point is ok.
Outliers had an odd arguement which I think bordered on facist (left or right wong).
I see his books being read on the train all the time. Or advertised on the Underground walkways.
I'm just curious as to how great a writer/thinker he is
let's hope someone can tell us eh?
it was quite interesting in a 'stating the obvious' kindofway.
He has a certain writing style that can make his points feel laboured sometimes. Maybe it's a consequence of writing for papers/magazines before writing books. But everything I've read by him has been engaging and I always feel better informed afterwards. It's like the rare occasion when you're accosted by a pub bore and he turns out to be genuinely interesting and personable.
i only opened this thread to post that.
i enjoyed The Tipping Point.
i got Outliers for Xmas last year but am still yet to read it...
he talks fantastically, but i'm not sure where the message of that fits in with my whole 'paradox of choice' thing...
and i can see what people have said about his ideas being, essentially, quite simple.
'hey guy, did you know different people like different things?'
but yeah...i guess, in some ways, it's not really about the message, but how he gets there...in print and speech, he can paint a wonderful portrait as he makes his point...
