His performance as koopa is genuinely in my top 5 of all-time.
he was a really great actor. really really great.
I'll watch season 1 of 24 over the next few days in his honour.
RIP old fella. CHEAP. GOLD. WATCH.
although confusingly in my post there I quoted a different movie o_O
I was only confusing myself, really!
Time to spark up a J and break out the tequila in honor
it's fine to criticise his flaws, as long as you acknowledge the brilliant work he produced as well
dies though. and the argument is never interesting, because it should always just end at
'yes you have the right to point out their flaws but to do so just after they've died is pretty tactless and doesn't really achieve anything'
If people are going to eulogise someone, I think they have the right to know - or at least *should* know - what they're eulogising. At the very least, there's a line between it being tactless and being constructive. "Hitler just died? RIP. Wait, what's that? He killed 6 million Jews? Maybe not then." Obviously I'm not comparing Dennis Hopper to Hitler, or even passing judgement on him, I'm just illustrating that the idea you should *never* speak ill of the dead is a bit silly. And giving idiots the opportunity to instantly dismiss what I'm saying by going "Omg, omg! You mentioned Hitler! Godwin's law, Godwin's law! You lose!"
so you, er, do lose.
i'm not saying you should never speak ill of the dead i'm saying there's a time and a place, and that time isn't a few hours after they've died. talk all you like about FREe SpEeCh and stuff (which is always lol on messageboards), but to criticise someone who's literally JUST died - whether they were hugely or a little flawed - just makes you a giant weirdo tactless robot twat. like bamnan
I was deliberately putting forward the most extreme example I could think of to show it gives absurd results. If you think that's meaningless... well, maybe you need to think about it a bit more. And to be honest, I'm not even sure tact is an issue here - as far as I'm aware, nobody with a direct association to Dennis Hopper reads these boards. Sensitivity, yes; tact, no. Perhaps arguing over what's appropriate behaviour in the immediate aftermath of somebody's death isn't the best example of the former.
me: do what you want but i think criticising someone recently deceased lacks tact and sensitivity
makes me wanna wade right on in and say something like, "Dennis Hopper died? Fucking deserved it".
bye bye dennis hopper
Frank Booth is genuinly one of the most terrifying movie characters ever
RIP Dennis. For me, the ending of Easy Rider can't be beaten. An incredible piece of work.
"Heinken?! Fuck that shit! PABST BLUE RIBBON!!"
Now a bigger, better celebrity has bumped him off the top of all the entertainment news sites AND he's managed what Gary couldn't, and got himself onto one of the lead stories on BBC News.
Wish I could put that even remotely tactfully
As much as I hate to say it, Peter Falk is reportedly in very bad shape at the moment.
probably had his flaws, but who the fuck didn't..especially if we're talking hollywood.
doesn't mean that we look past them now he has died, but will can still value his contribution to american cinema without having to give caveats left and right....'well, actually...he was a bit of a...'
i for one will be watching the american friend in tribute. great film, great performance. salut.
such a great great actor, RIP.
There was none finer
RIP sweet mentalist
you're part eggplant.
Huh? Hey, hey, hey.
You're a cantaloupe.
Genuinely mental. I remember watching Texas Chainsaw 2 with a bunch of mates and we were pissing ourselves at the thought that DH didn't actually know he was in a movie.
I thought he was great in Rumblefish too.
DADDY WANNA FUCK! http://bit.ly/bIgOrm
a fucking legend... dead...
Rest in peace, buddy
nah, it's close but you couldn't top Frank if ya tried
I'm a big Keanu Reeves fan though.
MOTHERFUCKER!! FOOD EATER!! - greatest insult of all time
