I say halapeeno.
it's barely ever written jalapeño, so i forgot. I blame the OP.
the thing above the n means it's pronounced HALAPENYO
but I think people generally don't put that many 'e's in.
The jalapeño (pronounced /?h??l??pe?njo?/; Spanish: [xala?pe?o])
or halapeeno if you want to anglicise it
Like Wotsits, but jalapeño flavoured instead. Can't make up my mind if they're tasty or very very dirty.
Though the very similar ones that Waitrose do are ever-so-slightly superior, because they have a puffy corrugated shape as well as the standard one.
It's easier to get away with saying Halapenyo when you're a slack-jaw northerner, like me.
What about chorizo?
just like i say choreetso rather that horitho because i think it sounds a bit silly in a british accent.
chorizo is only bad like that cos it isnt right in either english or spanish so it sounds odd
and we still have a 'y', of course, but it's rare in English to have it immediately following another consonant.
that said, i should probably withdraw from this discussion before it goes any further
