he carried on like he was a Radio 1 daytime presenter. The music he played was nothing to be sniffed at mind you
Cheers you up of a morning, I actually think he's a funny guy (because I'm not an insecure indie tit who hates any fella that has a tiny bit of self-confidence).
Also the music is/was ALWAYS brilliant, it went from the usual guitar stuff to disco to African funk.
PS I don't give a fuck if he asked Ray Davies what his favourite vegetable was. The uproar around that was bullshit.
sure he could be funny now and again and the record choices for the show were of a decen quality, but none of that justifies his behaviour towards the people he interviewed. 6 music isn't supposed to be po-faced but it is supposed to have some interest in the music and the people who created it - lamb regularly failed to demonstrate that in his technique, often quite spectacularly, and people are perfectly entitled to been angered by that. lamb is a perfect servicable radio personality in the modern sense, but there was no need for him to be on 6 music.
odd. i like the guy and his show, i'm not being contrary for the sake of it. you make a good point about lamb not really fitting in with the 6 music style i guess.
the only reason people might dislike him is out of a sense of insecurity and a dislike of confidence in others. arguing against the general flow of opinion seemed like a comparably weak indie stereotype to the one you offered up.
i don't actually have that strong feelings on the subject but i think i did at one point and it seems a bit off to imply that there could be just one, invalid, reason for disliking the guy. it's not just indie hysterical 'oh he made my favourite singer songwriter discuss vegetables - he must be a prole cretin' stuff. there really are valid reasons for arguing that lamb's style conflicted with the general tone of the station and that it was always going to get people's backs up. if that was part of the point then fine, but don't paronise people for responding.
fuckin' damned if you do, damned if you don't. I, alongside drake, were some of the only people on these boards who quite enjoyed the show. silly humour + decent music + not taking himself too seriously = way better than poe-faced indie factathons.
people are welcome to their opinions but there's no need to speculate about other people's motivation. i didn't tell drake what to think, i just pointed out that there are a number of reasons to object to the guy, all of which will matter more to some people that others, and that patronising people for objecting to him, even if it's almost cliche to do so, is a bit off.
an insult which was some way wide of the mark seeing as the general consensus around here was that Lamb was ruining music radio - and DiS is nothing if not filled with contrary indie tits.
even the last line of your original post is indie tittish to the extreme. "lamb is a perfect servicable radio personality in the modern sense, but there was no need for him to be on 6 music." - WHAT DOES THIS EVEN MEAN? you either like the guy, or you don't. no need to get academic over a situation which is essentially "would I have this bro as my friend?"*.
*Russell Brand is a marked exception to this. I like him a lot, but not only would he be a LOT funnier and smarter than me, he would also fuck any girl I laid eyes on before I'd told her my name. fuck that.
so i don't think i can really classify myself as trolling but god i love pissing you off, you hypocritical fuck.
that said, i would be genuinely interested to hear which one dimensional right-on stereotype you are mistaking my life for. i am curious.
I can't stand him. I think he's an unfunny idiot and he sings along to the end of songs and he's just generally annoying. He tries too hard to be funny but doesn't pull it off well. I don't like his mates who sit in as well. They laugh stupidly. I'm glad he's off. A&J seriously need to come back although i do quite enjoy Colins and Herring.
i now love collins and find herring pretty annoying..
why does he do that weired, stuttering baby voice all the time? he talks like he's being cute with his girlfriend or summit. i dunno
shame nemone is back in for collins this week.
I quite like the two of them together but will always prefer A&J.
George Lamb just annoys the hell out of me. God knows how he got the morning slot and I have no clue why they kept him for the weekends when they had a switch around! Is Jon Richardson still on Sunday mornings? He has such a lovely voice.
I am loving a bit of Alan Carr and Melanie Sykes on a saturday night. I do not feel guilty about this. He plays some great disco tunes.
I can't stand his show, it's so corny. Especially went people ask for shout outs and he'll play a Danny Dyer clip fifty times over. CRINGE!
It's almost as if George bashed it out himself with his stupid twat hands.
What a douche
I began to wonder if I should try an experiment in life, where I acted like as much of a tit as possible, then when people complained, I pointed and laughed at them and said "get a sense of humour".
Tangentially, this reminds me of the few gigs I've been to where I've actually been non-British and taken exception to people acting like arses and spoiling my gig, for them to turn round and say "we're ooooooooonly having fun" in stupid poshboy accents.
That is all.
...and also it's nice to use the word 'tangentially' from time to time.
so very awful
find him quite affable now. one of the only shows to play a bit dance music too. which is a shame to see it go.
