carragher over neville g is silly.
nedum onuoha will go and play for the nation of his ancestry now, though, which might be an error on capello's part
but i thought he would have made the 30
Ashley Young has been utter crap this season. In fact, there's only been about 3 months out of the last 3 seasons that he's looked an international player.
I still prefer him to some of the other players included ...
when i play as England on FIFA 10. He's incredibly quick and has a good shot. On this basis, I would have him in the squad.
neville is the definition of liability, know way he deserves to play in the premiership for any side let alone a world cup.
He's less of a defensive liability than Johnson at any rate
Thudd will look like the best midfielder in the world in training and make the final 23. Plz.
you have hearts of stone ;_;
carragher is a joke, he hasnt even been that good this season
heskey has barely scored a goal and doesnt start for villa
carrick has been awful for united
wright phillips, doesnt play for city.
lennon, wright philips, johnson (who i am glad to see in the squad as has looked good), cole, milner and walcott. i know this will be cut down but thats a lot of short wingers who dont play in other positions.
saying that, what else have we got.
as is walcott. cole? meh.
stop worrying, fab-ee-oh knows what he's doing (except for picking carragher and king)
cant think of anyone who should be in there and isnt.
I think my 30 yesterday only had two differences.
Glad bent gets a chance, seeing as he was about the 3rd or 4th highest scorer in the Prem this year. And got to see Parker in there too.
Barry won't be fit in time though, surely?
Huddlestone will probably be dropped if Barry gets fit
and left midfield are worries based on that squad. But we knew that anyway.
Okay overall though.
But I wouldn't advocate it.
I suppose he's not markedly worse going forward than he is at the back ...
seven to go: Heskey, Warnock, King, Huddlestone, SWP, Barry (if injured, Carrick otherwise), Walcott
do we have any these days, apart from Glen Johnson?
Is Rob Jones injured?
Two for each side.
Carragher, potentially Milner. Might be Gerrard's best position at the moment as well.
a part timer and two guys who typically play CM for their clubs.
We're boned aren't we?
one of Baines/Warnock will be gone. I don't believe you need four world class full backs in a squad. As long as you don't have a complete donkey as cover. Versatility is key and I'd rather have a couple of options for right back (Carragher/Milner/Gerrard) who can all play elsewhere.
barry? good at breaking up play.....for his own team
have people stopped watching football?
Not seeing a DM in there is completely obtuse. Are you saying that you know what a DM is better than Capello? A DM doesn't have to be a monstrous pacy lunk; it requires good reading of the game and the ability to tackle, spread play and track the midfield runners. Plenty of those men can do this very well (Barry, Carrick, Milner, Gerrard, Huddlestone and Parker).
I still read 'DM' as 'Danger Mouse'
have you ever watched carrick play?
but the other five can all hold their own in that position
in that he sits pretty deep. Wouldn't be in my squad anyway.
should take a look at Capellos gambling habits
my call up still hasn't come through :(
Little sad there's no room for Gabby Agbonlahor though. But he doesn't really fit any of the systems Fabio likes to use.
But yeah, Carragher is an odd choice. He's had an iffy season.
you're certainly right, he does score goals! in a way.
...he had a very ropey patch for a couple of months in the winter but other than that he's been pretty solid. Past his best, sure, but still solid. Especially in Europe.
But yeah he shouldn't be there.
That's why he is there.
ahead of Zamora. Sack Fabio and bring in Coppell I say
he's scored 5 goals since joining Villa in Jan 2009, in 27 starts and 18 sub appearances. Prolific...
but has he scored?!
"Zamora was a really important player but we spoke with him and he has a big problem with his Achilles," Capello added. "He said he can't play because he can't train every day."
With that in mind, I'm really impressed with how willing Capello has been to base his selections on form, and largely ignored player status based on their presence in previous squads.
I can't really think of many who aren't included who might've been. Zamroa, Neville, Agbonlahor...anyone else?
come on maaaan
Ireland and Fletcher
Would have been a great addition to the squad. Can play in midfield and probably better right-back cover than Carragher.
downing I'll take
60% of english defenders might've been
the half flick-on right on the full time whistle. perfection.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaall round the FIEEEEEEEEEEEEELDS.
GOD I LOVE BEING A RED (ESPESH ON HERE) XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Carra will score the winning pen in the final.
Johnson (not happy about this) / Terry / King (maybe) / A Cole
Johnson / Milner / Lampard / Lennon (he switches wings for Spurs, why not England?)
Heskey / Rooney
would solve the keeper crisis
due to their perma-crocked status
That makes infinitely more sense.
Heskey, Warnock, Upson, Wright-Phillips, Carrick (unless Barry's out), Huddlestone (unfortunately) and... Oh bugger, I can't call it.
Doesn't matter anyway, England'll fall in the quarters whoever's in the squad.
I'm retiring from international football in protest
anyone know who it is?
Wait. I think I know.
or Dean Macey.
Or Whoopi Goldberg in Star Trek.
Capello should have made his mind up about Baines and Warnock already. There's no way he'll take both.
any more than he should have made his mind up on anyone else? You might as well say he should have just named a 23-man squad today.
They are vying for the same specific backup spot, and unless Cole gets injured neither will even feature in the tournament. There is no way he will take three left backs. Every other player has an equal chance of going in place of someone else and actually playing, but with them, one of them is guaranteed not to go, and the one that does is very unlikely to play. So quite why he hasn't, from scouting reports or his own personal match viewings been able to decide whether he wants Baines or Warnock to go is beyond me. On form Baines is playing much better than Warnock at the moment too. Its just a bit odd when he has left Jagielka out who he could try out in practice matches at centre back AND right back, and Jamie Carragher is the only backup option now at right back, so it seems he will definitely go regardless. Maybe he wants to try out Warnock at right back, I'm not sure.
Maybe this makes no sense to you, but it just seems like a bit of an odd decision.
worst news of the day
He never scores. SO FUCKING WHAT? This is real football, not PES. England scored shitloads in qualifying, and have goals from all over the pitch, we don't need Emile to score, we need him to create space for Rooney and link play. He's a forward lying holding midfielder essentially, and is crucial to our system.
And as for the silly cunt who compared Milner to John O'Shea...
